Note: The Jets are in offseason mode but is there really ever an offseason? If there is any news we will have it for you here. Yesterday we learned that former Jets/Moose forward Mikey Eyssimont has a new deal with the Lightning. We also learned that Nino Niederreiter is set to play for Team Switzerland at World Championship. And of course the Illegal Curve Hockey Show runs until the end of July so be sure you’re a subscriber and join us every Saturday morning at 9 AM.
Note II: The Moose had a chance to punch their tickets to the next round had they won game 4 last night in Milwaukee against the Admirals. Instead, despite scoring the opening goal of the game they would give up four in the next 40 to find themselves down 4-1 after 40. A couple of goals early in the 3rd made it closer but a lack of discipline cost them and they lost 5-3. Can they clean it up tonight in a pivotal game 5? Stay tuned to find out. Puck drop is at 6 PM CDT.
Note III: The Ice are back on the ice today for practice after a few days off. They are less than one week away from the start of the WHL Championship series getting underway against a still yet to be determined opponent.
Note IV: Speaking of those potential opponents we may know who that is when Brad Lambert and the Thunderbirds look to hit the knockout blow tonight when they host the Blazers tonight in Seattle. Puck drop is at 6 PM CDT.
Note V: Over in North Bay, Jets goalie prospect Dom DiVincentiis and his Battalion teammates defeated the Petes 6-2 in game 5 to take a 3-2 series lead. They are one win away from the OHL Championship. DiVincentiis with a 2.29 GAA & a .929 save% in 18 playoff games.
Note VI: Join us this morning at 9 AM CDT on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show for two hours Jets, Moose and Ice talk today. We will be joined by Jim Toth of CJOB 680 and Brian Munz of the Winnipeg Ice.
Jets news:
Sportsnet: Seven potential off-season suitors for Jets’ Connor Hellebuyck. The vultures are circling the corpse of the Jets although this reminds me of the Monty Python ‘bring out your dead’ scene for Quest for the Holy Grail with the guy (in this instance the Jets) saying “I’m not quite dead”. Anyways check out this thought exercise of where number 37 could end up.
Global News: With Jets eliminated, who should fans back in playoffs? I asked folks who follow us on our Instagram a similar type of question a few nights back which elicited quite a few responses. Some folks wanted either the Oilers/Leafs with a Canadian team not having won since 1993. Others wanted the Golden Knights for all the Manitobans on the team while others were hoping for former Jets head coach Paul Maurice. Even the Kraken, home of former Jets assistant/interim head coach Dave Lowry got some positive comments.
