Not much No Winnipeg Jets news today, but a potential lockout dominates this morning’s news.

CBA News

The Canadian Press: NHLPA members ‘disappointed’ league dismisses initial proposal. Well NHLPA, it wasn’t going to be that easy avoiding a lockout. The odds of Gary Bettman looking at the players initial proposal and agreeing to it were…slim and none.

USA Today: Canceled prospects tournament could point to NHL lockout. 29 days to go until the September 15 lockout…but who’s counting?

Toronto Sun: NHLers planning a European odyssey in case of a lockout may be tough. If NHLers go to Europe, I’ll have to pick a new favourite team, HC Davos is currently the frontrunner.

Sportsnet.ca: Brophy on CBA: Don’t Shoot The Messenger. The messenger in this article is Gary Bettman.

Sportsnet.ca: With a lockout looming, we solve the NHL’s crisis in five easy steps. If only fixing the CBA was actually that easy, if it was, I’m sure it would have been done by now.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Lockout suddenly seems probable. How many fans have a reminder set for September 15th in their calendar?

The Buffalo News: NHL in October? I don’t think so. Anyone out there think that there WILL be hockey in October? I personally would like to think that they’ll be able to come to an agreement.

New York Times: In NHL Negotiation, the Union’s Good Ideas May Not Matter. Well that’s no way to negotiate now is it?

MLive.com: NHL is headed for a lockout but it won’t last into 2013, according to a national hockey writer. That national hockey writer is Adrian Dater of the Denver Post & Sports Illustrated.

NHL News

MLive.com: Red Wings cancel annual prospects tournament in Traverse City. It was cancelled due to uncertainty surrounding the CBA. Kevin Allen of USA Today thought that this was the sign of the apocalypse (apocalypse meaning lockout).

The Canadian Press: CRTC approves sale of MLSE television channels to BCE and Rogers. If the two rival companies can work together so well on the Olympics, this should be easy as pie.

The Hockey News: Many restricted free agents still without contracts. Jets fans know that Evander Kane has yet to sign. However, Jamie Benn, PK Subban, Michael Del Zotto and Ryan O’Reilly are just some of the other restricted free agents who have yet to sign. Did I mention there was 29 days until a lockout?

Sportsnet.ca: Domi added to Maple Leafs Alumni Roster. They can cancel the whole season, but please don’t cancel the alumni game.

The Sporting News: Five Hole: Union unites, Canadiens rebuild, 2014 Olympics. My vote is to send the players to Russia.

The Star-Ledger: Devils’ David Clarkson says emotions got him through playoffs despite fractured foot. Another story about a player toughing it through an injury during the playoffs, major props to David Clarkson.

Dallas Morning News: What NHL, players can learn from Stars-Jamie Benn negotiations. Jets fans can take out Jamie Benn and Dallas Stars, and replace it with Evander Kane and Winnipeg Jets.

Dallas Morning News: A look at Mike Heika’s top 10 stars players of all timeThe Stars had some great teams in the late 90’s/early 00’sMike Modano, Sergei Zubov, Darian Hatcher and Ed Belfour are the first four names that come to mind. (Can you name the other six?)
