Note: Prior to puck drop in Tampa head coach Rick Bowness provided an updated on Adam Lowry, Josh Morrissey and Pierre-Luc Dubois which eliminated all but Lowry from last night’s game. It wasn’t as if they started on time as it was the Lightning who scored the first goal of the game less than two minutes into the opening period. However the Jets stemmed the bleeding and then pushed back to take a 3-1 lead which was whittled down to 3-2 but which is how the game ultimately ended with Winnipeg picking up a big two points and moving into 3rd in the Central. They are off today.

Note II: The Moose blew a 2-0 lead yesterday in Des Moines and ultimately lost the game 4-2 to the Wild. The difference in the game were special teams, which have been exceptional this season for Manitoba, but which failed them this weekend in Iowa. Of course the biggest thing that came from that game was this massive tilt between Jets prospect Tyrel Bauer and Brandonite Tanner Kaspick. Manitoba travels today to Rockford where they will take on the Icehogs on Wednesday.

Note III: The Ice won their fourth straight game as they defeated the Wheat Kings 4-1 yesterday in Winnipeg. That was their 52nd win of the season. Last year they had 53 which was highest ever in the history of the organization (including Kootenay & Edmonton). They have six games left to eclipse that total.

Jets news:

Global News:  Deadline acquisitions making big impact on Jets. Oftentimes it isn’t the teams that make the biggest splash at Trade Deadline that have the most success. A few tweaks here and there can have a significant impact.

Sportsnet: Jets put in a true team effort with hard-fought victory over Lightning. It was a game that the Appleton’s and Baron’s stood out for all the right reasons.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets make it two-for-two in Florida with win over Lightning. Show of hands. How many people really thought the Jets were gonna get out of the Sunshine State with four points? Helped they had this guy stop most of the 83 shots he faced over the last two games.

Winnipeg Free Press: Put away the pitchforks. (Paywall). It is almost like the Jets play better when their backs are against the wall. Mike recaps the action from his spot inside the arena.

Winnipeg Free Press: Eyssimont puts charge into Bolts. (Paywall). Mike caught up with the former Jets/Moose forward who was showing off his tenacity in last night’s hockey game. Morgan Barron was on the receiving end of his usual brand of physical hockey.

Tampa Bay Times: Lightning end four-game homestand with loss to Jets. Read about the game from the perspective of a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

Jets video:

TSN: Button: ‘Jets should be hugging Hellebuyck right now’. TSN’s Director of Scouting Craig Button credited Connor Hellebuyck with being responsible for the Jets picking up back-to-back wins in Florida, and said that the team will need to play better in front of their netminder down the stretch.
