Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note: Today the Jets are set to conclude their homestand against the Wild who lost to Calgary at home in the shootout last night. With it being a gameday all eyes will be on morning skate which gets underway at 9:30 AM CST. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 6:30 PM CST (Reminder puck drop is 30 minutes earlier than normal).

Note III: The Moose kicked off their seven-game road trip with a slow start surrendering two goals on the first three shots of the game last night in Abbotsford to the Canucks. But they began to fight back getting the score back to even before the 1st period had concluded courtesy of this shot by Jeff Malott and this ripper by Jets prospect Daniel Torgersson. Leading scorer Alex Limoges would give them a lead in the 2nd with a tap in goal and then Jeff Malott completed the contest from his office. It improves them to 31-17-3-3 and moves them one point back of 2nd place Milwaukee (and two back of 1st place Texas) with games in hand. The re-match with the Canucks is tonight. Puck drop is at 9 PM CST.

Note IV: Make it 50 wins for the Ice who defeated the Tigers last night in Winnipeg by a final score of 3-1. That gives them 50 wins in 60 games as they become first team in CHL to get to that win total. They are now down to 8 games left in regular season. Next up are the Oil Kings on Friday in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Sun: Pressure mounts as Jets’ tailspin continues. While the Jets may have three points in their last two games they really can ill afford not to put forth a total team effort because don’t look now but they’ve slipped back into a wild card spot from the comfort of 3rd place and the Flames/Predators aren’t sitting by and throwing their seasons away.

Winnipeg Free Press: ‘Patience and hard work key to beating Wild,’ says Niederreiter. (Paywall). This fan base wants to see a team that they aren’t afraid to get a little dirty and put forth a solid effort as they look for their first win against their divisional rivals this season.

TSN: Winnipeg expecting physical contest against red-hot rival Wild. The Jets are 0-2 against the Wild this season, having been outscored 10-2 overall. Winnipeg is 2-6-2 in their last 10 games, and are three points behind their division rival. Wednesday the two will renew acquaintances, and the Jets are expecting a hard and physical battle with so much on the line. TSN’s John Lu has more.

TSN: Despite struggles, Jets confident things are turning around. While the Jets have been struggling lately to a 2-6-2 record over their last ten games, they believe that overall they have been getting back to what has made them successful so far this season, and remain confident as the stretch run of the season continues.

Sportsnet: Jets’ Bowness looking for positive attitude out of his players to get out of late-season skid. Jets head coach Rick Bowness speaks about his message to his team and encourages them to keep their heads up and focus on the games left in the season rather than dwelling on past performances.
