Note: The Jets started off the road trip with a stinker dropping last night’s contest in Montreal by a final score of 4-1 which stopped their win streak at three games. Today they are in Toronto where they are set to practice as they look to bounce back when they take on the Leafs tomorrow night. Stay tuned for the Practice Report.

Note II: I missed the game last night but the Moose started off the six-game homestand with a 2-0 win over the Wolves to improve to 19-12-2-1 on the season. The goal scoring came from a pair of Edmontonians in Nicholas Jones (GWG) and Brayden Burke (first with Moose) and almost a goalie goal courtesy of Oskari Salminen. The two clubs have a re-match tonight with a 7 PM CST puck drop.

Note III: The Ice are next in action tonight when they take on the Raiders in Prince Albert. Puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Jets news:

National Post: Wheeler says ‘there’s a freedom’ in no longer being the captain of the Winnipeg Jets. While it is an old story here in Manitoba folks in the centre of the hockey universe are getting their first shot at talking to the former captain. But it is readily apparent from Wheeler’s demeanour that the weight of no longer having to chat on an almost nightly basis has been lifted.

Global News: Sluggish Jets effort against Habs a learning moment. Games like last night are somewhat inevitable in an 82 game season and as Paul writes how the team reacts to a poor effort is going to be worth watching.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets put on ugly performance in loss to Habs. They cannot all be Picasso’s but that looked like elementary school artwork by a Jets club which should have been firing on all cylinders.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ coach Rick Bowness doing everything he can to sway Pierre-Luc Dubois to stay. The bench boss of Winnipeg had some gem quotes in yesterday’s media availability following morning skate.

Winnipeg Free Press: Lacklustre Jets lose 4-1 to lowly Canadiens. (Paywall). Hard to reconcile that Jets team to the one that dismantled the Penguins and yet they are largely the same.

Winnipeg Free Press: Dubois taking things one season at a time. (Paywall). It wasn’t a surprise that he gave the answers that he did when asked about his future.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets’ trip to Montreal put Pierre-Luc Dubois — and Rick Bowness — in the spotlight. (Paywall). Plenty to digest (along with your breakfast or lunch depending on when you are reading this) in Murat’s latest from Montreal.

Sportsnet: Disjointed all-around play plagues Jets in loss against struggling Canadiens. Wieber reacts to that hockey game folks watched last night.

Sportsnet: Could Dubois’ next game at Bell Centre be for the Canadiens? If I am Montreal do you really want to give up assets you can ill afford to part with to get him when your team would still be rebuilding? Would seem the likely play by the Habs is for when he becomes a UFA (if that happens) and not next season.

Montreal Gazette: Dadonov scores twice as Canadiens down Jets. Read about the game from the perspective of a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

Global News: Canadiens shock the Jets with easy 4-1 win. Another assessment of the game from a media member who covers the Habs.

Jets video:

TSN: ‘It was a sloppy game’: McLennan dissects what went wrong for the Jets defensively. Although Winnipeg is one of the top defensive teams in the league, TSN Hockey analyst Jamie McLennan explains what caused the Jets so much trouble defensively in their loss to the Habs.

TSN Bardown: Jesse Pollock competes in the Winnipeg Jets Skills Competition. If you’re looking to be entertained then check this out.
