Note:  Jets announce that Larry Simmons has been named Assistant General Manager. He spent last year as Assistant to the General Manager.  Simmons was the Vice-President/Assistant General Manager with the Thrashers from 2004 until the team’s move to Winnipeg prior to last year.

USA Today:  2012 NHL offseason remakes (starts at picture 29 of 49).   Jets are ranked 6th as Kevin Allen gives his end-of-July ranking of the 10 most improved teams and explains what the arrivals bring.

Windsor this week:  A “little” motivation for Wellwood.  Appears that Wellwood is enjoying his summer and is motivated to have a big season next year for the Jets.

CBA news:

Globe and Mail:  Escrow a nasty word to players.  But one that must be understood within the current CBA structure.

NHL.com:  Subcommittee work dominates latest CBA session.  Lots of little items also need to be resolved as both sides work towards getting a deal done.

New York Daily News:  Lockout ‘foreseeable’ to Kings’ Westgarth.  A pretty comprehensive assessment of where things stand currently.

NHL news:

Delaware County Times:  Flyers’ Laviolette officially gets long-awaited contract.  Nice to have the safety of a contract in your back pocket, but in today’s NHL, it doesn’t ensure total job security.

The Province:  Shane Doan still on the menu for Canucks.  And if they cannot get a deal done with the Coyotes captain, there is talk that they are also targeting Jason Arnott as a short term solution.
