Note: The Jets rolled into Tempe to face the Coyotes at Mullett Arena for the first time an NHL game would be played there and were able to pick up wins in back-to-back games as they came back to defeat Arizona by a final score of 3-2 in OT and improve to 5-3-0 on the season. The schedule for today is to be determined although it seems likely that they take the day off before they conclude this three-game road trip tomorrow evening in Vegas against the Golden Knights. If they do practice or have a media availability, we will post it.

Note II: The Moose have won four straight and have points in all five games to start the 2022-23 season which puts them in top spot in the Central Division. They kick off six games at home this afternoon when they welcome the Iowa Wild to town for a pair of matinees which kick off at 2 PM. We’ve got four seats in the Illegal Curve Zone so if you want to go to the game you can send me a message in my DMs and let me know that you want to attend the game.

Note III: The Ice defeated the Wheat Kings in Brandon 4-1 last night which concludes 13 straight games on the road to start the 2022-23 season. Winnipeg went 12-1-0-0 as they have now won seven in a row. They will play their home opener tonight in Winnipeg against Brandon.

Note IV: It was a big night for Jets 2022 3rd rounder Danny “Dangles” Zhilkin who put up four points for Guelph including this snipe.

Jets news:

Sportsnet: Mullett Arena opener delivers electric atmosphere: ‘Everything about it was awesome’. Kenny was in Arizona for the opening of the newest arena in the NHL and he fires this report.

Winnipeg Sun: Small building, big atmosphere as Jets spoil party in Coyotes home opener. The chants had a very college feel and I don’t say that as a criticism.

Winnipeg Sun: Hall of Famers Selanne and Numminen say people of Winnipeg provided greatest memories of their time with Jets. The Finnish pair spent quite of time learning how to be pros in Manitoba

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets overcome slow start to top Coyotes 3-2. (Paywall). It was a snoozefest which led to some mind numbing play but eventually after going down by  a pair of goals they were able to get back into the contest.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets set to fete fantastic Finns. (Paywall). As much as Teppo and Temmu enjoyed yapping about the 80s and 90s there is a generation of Jets 1.0 fans who spent many evenings focused on this duo.

Arizona Republic: 3 takeaways from Arizona Coyotes’ home-opening loss to Winnipeg Jets. Get insight into the game from a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

ESPN: Arizona Coyotes praise crowd ‘energy’ in opener at Mullett Arena. It will be interesting to see how much coverage this team gets once the unique moments become few and far between.

Global News: Years later, Jets 2.0 a better bet than former franchiseNot sure any fans of the 1.0 era Jets would look at the 14 years without NHL hockey. Although I will say it did give Winnipeggers an “us against everyone” mentality that saw folks ensuring that, whether it was a World Juniors or a Pan Am Games, they did their best to pull it off in the best way possible.

Jets video:

Sportsnet: Jets rely on star players to rally from behind in win over CoyotesSean Reynolds and Ken Wiebe discuss the Winnipeg Jets’ win over the Arizona Coyotes in the debut of Mullett Arena, why the Jets’ top players played like top players, and how they’re able to win after starting slow.

TSN: Could recreating a ‘college atmosphere’ actually work at Coyotes new rinkIt hasn’t been welcomed with the warmest arms, but the Coyotes will start a new era at Mullett Arena tonight, in what will be the smallest arena in the league. TSN Hockey analyst Dave Poulin discusses whether the Coyotes attempt at recreating a ‘college atmosphere’ could possibly spin this situation into a positive.
