Globe and Mail: NHL makes expanded proposal to NHLPA but enormous gap remains.  You never want to read the words “enormous gap” when discussing collective bargaining.

Fox Business:  NHL on thin ice as CBA set to expire.  Both sides know the disaster which will occur if there is a significant work stoppage.

Toronto Star:  Gary Bettman lays out league’s proposal to players.  As with any negotiations, ask for the moon and then dial it back as you see what the other side counters with.

NHL news:

Sportsnet:  Gretzky in Seattle to talk NHL franchise.  Will the Great One be able to bring hockey to the Northwest coast the same as he was able to in California?  The investors who want to build an arena for the NBA sure hope so as they will reportedly get around 80 million more if they can bring in an NHL team with the NBA to the new building.

New York Times:  Newest Ranger explains goodbye to Columbus.  He has spent almost a decade without the pressure or expectation to win that he will experience in a city like New York.  Of course not having to be the sole big guy on the team should help to alleviate some of the pressure to do it all himself.

USA Today: Predators in on Shane Doan sweepstakes.  The death knell was being sounded for this franchise just a few days ago.  Quite the turnaround for the sport in Tennessee.
