Winnipeg Free Press:  Don’t squander this one, Jets.  This will likely be the last summer of wacky (long-term) contracts as expectations are that the new CBA will remove these insanely long contracts.

Winnipeg Sun:  What would Jets do if Kane was given an offer sheet?  I’m having flashbacks of when the Hawks tendered an offer to Keith Tkachuk (5 year 17.2 million dollar) forcing the Jets 1.0 to pay some big money (at that time) to keep their power forward.

CBA news:

New York Post:  Talks focus on players contracts.  Perhaps the elimination of long term contracts will ensure guys like Alexei Yashin won’t receive 10-year, $87.5 million contracts, which if you will recall the Islanders were forced to buy out in 2007, but who still carried a $7,159,794 cap hit (courtesy of capgeek) until last season.

WEEI.com:  The life of a player rep during CBA negotiations.  This is going to be one wild summer for the player reps.

NHL news:

St. Louis Post-Dispatch:  Blues re-sign Oshie for nearly $21 million.  The Blues have remained pretty stable following a successful 2010-11 campaign.

Delaware County-Times:  Flyers poised to prey on Weber; now it’s Preds’ move.  All eyes are on Nashville.  They have 7 days in which to reply to the offer.

Globe and Mail:  Preds face painful reality of being a small-market, small-revenue NHL franchise.  But wait, the Jets are said to be following the Predators model.  That cannot be good for business.
