Note: The Jets confirmed the deal that CapFriendly reported Thursday night being the signing of RFA Jeff Malott to a two-year deal. They also announced that they had come to terms with another RFA signing Johnny Kovacevic to a three-year deal. Last up was the big news that Pierre-Luc Dubois had accepted his one-year qualifying offer.
Note II: Both new Jets assistant coaches, both will be joining us on today’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show. Be sure you’re subscribing and be part of the conversation which gets underway at 9 AM.
Jets news:
Sportsnet: Jets get temporary clarity on Dubois but next steps will decide team’s direction. Wieber chimes in with his thoughts on the deal and what it means for Dubois and Winnipeg.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets 2022-23 depth chart 2.0: Pierre-Luc Dubois signs, Jets gain cap flexibility. Murat with his insight into the signing and the ramifications it will have.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets sign centre Pierre-Luc Dubois to one-year contract after qualifying offer accepted. While the contract drama is over it doesn’t mean it will be smooth sailing for the rest of the summer.
Winnipeg Free Press: Dubois back in Jets fold, for now. (Paywall). The “for now” part is key. Given the blockbuster trade of Flames RFA Matthew Tkachuk (and the potentially insane return for the Flames) it will be interesting to see if something similar (although likely not as significant given the lack of an extension possibility).
The Buffalo News: How Eric Comrie broke through ‘ceiling,’ earned opportunity with Sabres. He may no longer be a member of the Jets/Moose organization but always good to pass along a news tidbit about one of the most well liked players to be drafted by Winnipeg.
Jets video:
Montreal Gazette: Canadiens would pay steep price to land Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Winnipeg Jets. Gazette sports columnist Stu Cowan, former Canadiens defenceman and assistant coach Rick Green and Canadiens podcast host Andrew Berkshire — along with host Julian McKenzie talk about what it would take to make a potential deal for disgruntled Jets centre Pierre-Luc Dubois, who has expressed a desire to play in Montreal.
NHL Network: Chat with Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness. The new Jets bench boss joined Jackie Redmond and Billy Jaffe on NHL Network to chat about his new job in Winnipeg.
