Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note: While it matters not since the playoffs aren’t part of the plan for the Jets they picked up their third straight win courtesy of last night’s 3-1 win over the Flames in their second last game of the season. They did have a practice scheduled but the expectation is it will be cancelled. They will conclude their regular season tomorrow afternoon against the Kraken even though the rest of the NHL is done and awaiting the start of the playoffs.

Note II: Even though the Moose weren’t in action last night one AHL game that was played on Friday had a big impact on Manitoba. The Admirals defeated the IceHogs which locked up the third spot in the Central for them and a Central Division Semifinal matchup against the AHL club of Winnipeg. Check out our preview here. It is expected to be a big near sold out crowd for the season finale against the Canucks. Puck drop is at 2 PM.

Note III: The Ice picked up a big game 5 win over the Raiders 8-2 last night in Winnipeg to send Prince Albert back to Saskatchewan courtesy of their 4-1 series lead. They don’t know their next opponent for the second round but I believe they could either face Moose Jaw or if Brandon could comeback in their series (down 3-2 to Red Deer) could make for an all-Manitoba battle. Stay tuned.

TSN: Jets announcer Beyak ‘humbled, overwhelmed’ by support ahead of retirement. Longtime Winnipeg Jets play-by-play announcer Dennis Beyak will retire at the end of this season, after a broadcasting career that spanned over 50 years. He sat down with TSN’s Sara Orlesky to reflect back on his career, and the support he has received from fans and colleagues.

Jets forward Pierre-Luc Dubois says he honestly hasn’t given it much though, and hasn’t talked with management yet, but says he can see himself signing long-term in Winnipeg, and a chance to play with Kyle Connor is a big factor of why.
