Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets feed us snacks while we wait for dinner.  Patience is a virtue not generally possessed by fans who shell out thousands of entertainment dollars but that is exactly what is being asked.  The St. Louis Blues had a 5-6 year re-build, which is essentially what the Jets are attempting.  It certainly is not easy with a ‘win now’ mentality, but to ensure more than 7th and 8th place finishes, it is the best course of action.  Of course this also requires locking up the young core sooner rather than later.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Future stars on ice.  The IcePlex will be rocking next week as fans get to experience their 2nd ever rookie camp.  You can be sure that Illegal Curve will be at the rink daily and will have all the latest from these young guns.

Winnipeg Sun:  Would Wild free agent frenzy happen with Jets?  Normally you would say that homegrown talent should wait until the team is a contender before considering heading back to their roots.  But perhaps Parise and Sutter, who being from nearby Wisconsin is close enough, are showing that you can go to a team which just shows the promise of future success.

The Detroit News:  Here are winners and losers in a hectic NHL free-agent season.  Jets placed in the loser category.  Writer didn’t feel Jets did enough up front.

NHL news:

Chicago Tribune:  NHL, players’ union continue ‘productive’ talks.  Fans better hold both the NHL and NHLPA feet to the fire.  No point in waiting until mid September to start raising a furor.   Let your voices be heard by both sides letting them know you won’t put up with another labour situation.

National Post: Little guys making biggest splash in free agency.  Gives hope for Jets fans when they are close to becoming a contender.  Traikos takes a look at the moves from around the league so far.

Brandon Sun:  Stanley Cup coming to Brandon this month.  If you want your picture taken with Lord Stanley’s Cup make your way to the Wheat City this month.

Minneapolis Star-Tribune:  Image overhaul for Wild was bonus in Parise-Suter deal.  If you’re a betting man, I suspect you hope you got the Wild at 200-1 rather than the 22-1 they became after these bold moves.  If you had to bet, do you think the Wild will compete for the Stanley Cup next season?  Or are they still a few years away?
