Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets to test prospects’ wings.  The exciting thing for fans is they can pack the IcePlex and watch the next generation of Jets fans prepare to impress the team brass all next week.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Scheifele playing things right.  The young gun prospect is doing and saying all the right things, which would seem to illustrate the high level of character this team sought when the drafted him.  If he continues to develop and his talent level can match his character level, the Jets are going to have quite the special player.

Winnipeg Free Press:  ‘Peg already feels like home for Scheifele.  It has been a whirlwind year since he was drafted ‘off the board’ by the Jets.  Fans have to like hearing the fact that he is putting on weight and already talking about Winnipeg like it is his home base.

Winnipeg Sun:  Hockey world pulling for Baizley.  Known as ‘The’ player agent from Winnipeg and representing some of the premier talent (i.e.  Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu, Peter Forsberg, Paul Kariya and Joe Sakic,) in the league throughout the years, he is in the battle for his life right now.  For what it is worth, everyone at Illegal Curve wishes him the best.

General NHL news:

The Detroit News: Booze sales OK for NHL game at Michigan Stadium.  The Governor stepped in and will allow the University of Michigan stadium to make alcohol sales at the game, which considering it will be attended by close to 110,000 people is probably a very, very good decision.

?Globe and Mail:  Schneider in no hurry to have contract situation resolved.  Considering the potential labour strife, he might want to get something in writing soon.

CBC:  Red Wings make push for free agent Justin Schultz.  Would appear that the Wings and Oilers might be battling it out for this talented young defenceman.

Toronto Star:  NHL and players agree on $70.2 million salary cap, formal talks to start Friday.  As I’ve said previously, fans will not feel for either side in this fight.  Only acceptable result is getting a deal done before September 15th, so they can focus on what is truly important, my birthday, which is also on the 15th.
