Note: The Jets were off on Friday after concluding their road trip and won’t have a game until next Thursday. However the team still was making news as team President and COO John Olfert sent out an email in the morning informing season ticket holders that they would be playing their games at Canada Life Centre (after they had sent out a survey on Thursday probing season ticket holders about potentially playing in other jurisdictions). As well they had their ninth game postponed as the NHL killed next Saturday’s game which was supposed to be an Ottawa visit to Winnipeg. The team is scheduled to practice at 11 AM so stay tuned for a Practice Report.
Note II: The Moose were scheduled to be in action on Friday night in Texas but before puck drop the team announced three players (including two Jets D prospects) were in Covid protocol. This meant the team ended up playing a forward short and they are still without goalie Mikhail Berdin. However that hasn’t proven to be an issue as Evan Cormier, who they signed out of the ECHL, and backstopped them to a 4-1 win over the Stars. He’s made 86 saves on 90 shots and has secured five of six points for Manitoba. Last night he put on a clinic as the Moose were outshot, which is rare for them, by quite a bit. Austin Poganski scored twice, Jeff Malott for the game-winning goal and Nicholas Jones scored a shorthanded empty netter to provide the offence. These two teams have a re-match set for this evening.
Note III: Jets 2021 1st rounder Chaz Lucius had himself a night in his first game since returning from World Juniors. He finished with 1G 2A in the 4-1 Minnesota win over Michigan State. That’s his first three point game in college.
Note IV: Jets 2018 3rd rounder Nathan Smith had himself another solid game on Friday night with 1G 2A in a 7-1 Minnesota State win. That puts him atop the NCAA scoring leaders with 30 points (12G 18A) in 21 games. Sets a new career high for him in points.
