Note: The Jets were looking to end the road trip last night in Colorado with a win but instead they turned that into a whooping at the hands of a very good Avalanche team which handed them a 7-1 defeat. They are off today.
Note II: The Moose are in Texas today as they kick off the first of five games on the road starting with the Stars. Puck drop is at 7 PM.
Note III: In addition to Thursday being a game day it was also newsy because the Jets had three players and video coach Matt Prefontaine placed into NHL’s COVID-19 protocols.
Note IV: Also on Thursday the Jets sent season ticket holders a covid & health survey by email which included a question about playing games in other jurisdictions. Today however President and COO John Olfert sent out an email to season ticket holders that they will continue to play at Canada Life.
Note V: With NHLers not heading to the Beijing Olympics it will create opportunities for others including reportedly Jets 2018 3rd rounder Nathan Smith.
Jets news:
Sportsnet: Jets must learn how to compete with top teams like Avalanche. Don’t wanna say that headline is Captain Obvious but it was clearly evident that the roster, even somewhat depleted, couldn’t hang with the Avs top guns last night.
Winnipeg Sun: Avs’ top line runs wild over Jets in humbling loss. After 20 minutes you were left thinking that the Jets could make it home with a point in every single game of this three-game road trip but the middle frame changed that notion rather quickly.
Winnipeg Sun: Cole Perfetti takes time on taxi squad in stride. Would rather see him put into a top six role if you’re going to play him in the NHL and see what he can do. If not then let him go back to the AHL and play a top line role until you feel he can take one of your top six spots because that is when he and the organization will be best served.
Winnipeg Sun: Nikolaj Ehlers playing with heavy heart. Tough news to hear and you have to have empathy for his situation being so far removed from his family.
Winnipeg Free Press: Avs bury short-handed Jets 7-1. (Paywall). Mike had a front row seat (in the press box) last night and he recaps what he saw from his spot inside Ball Arena in Denver.
Global News: Avalanche top line eviscerates shorthanded Jets in 7-1 rout. Colorado certainly finished their opportunities.
Jets video:
TSN: What led to Winnipeg’s second period let down? After things were tied at one after the first period, the wheels fell off for the Jets who allowed three unanswered goals in the second period. What changed the tides in the game? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button shares his thoughts on this and more.
TSN: New coach bump or something else? Examining the Jets’ recent success. After a rough patch, the Jets have won three straight under new interim head coach Dave Lowry. Is that just the “new coach bump” or is there something else factoring into their success? That’s Hockey weighs in.
