Note: The Jets began the day with the news that they had reassigned Ville Heinola from the AHL to the taxi squad. From practice we learned it was because the team needed a spare for Neal Pionk who was having travel issues. We also learned on Monday that the Jets game tomorrow against Chicago had been postponed and that Canada Life won’t have fans at games until at least January 11th. They are scheduled to practice at 11 AM today so check back for our Practice Report.

Note II: While the Moose weren’t back skating yesterday they still made some news as their two upcoming games against Abbotsford were postponed.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Going to the net “non-negotiable” for Jets moving forward. There has been lots of chatter about this for awhile with this group so it will be interesting to see if they can add this element to their game.

Winnipeg Sun: Heinola back with big club; Public health orders force Jets to close doors to fans. Scott gives you some additional items of info in his snapshots column.

Winnipeg Free Press: Playing tough in hard areas key to Jets’ success. (Paywall). Nate Schmidt had some interesting comments about what it takes to win and how getting to the dirty areas can be a recipe for success.

Winnipeg Free Press: Finally! A taxi when you need one. (Paywall). Kinda crazy that the NHL is allowing this now. If you’re the Senators or Blues who had to play without it I don’t know how you’re not screaming bloody murder at the in season rule change.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Cole Perfetti Q&A: Childhood dreams, lessons gleaned from the Jets and unfinished business at the world juniors. (Paywall). Murat caught up with the Jets 2020 1st rounder as he goes for gold with Team Canada.

Jets video:

TSN: Jets adjusting to coach Lowry’s approach. Since taking over for Paul Maurice, interim head coach Dave Lowry has made some changes that players have been taking notice of, including faster paced practices, and a focus on getting in front of the net.

Sportsnet: Jets’ Schmidt saw the advantage of net front presence when playing in Washington. Nate Schmidt discusses the importance and the keys to getting players to the area in front of the net, and how he saw it work so well when he played with Tom Wilson and Alex Ovechkin in Washington.
