Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets sign Pavelec to 5-year contract. Looks like the KHL rumours can finally be put to rest as the Jets locked up last season’s MVP for the next 5 years. Price is a bit steep but that is the price of doing business.
TSN: Cheveldayoff happy with Jets haul at draft. How much happier would he be if he had been in a position to make a trade with the Islanders at this year’s draft. (If you’re scratching your head, it was revealed today that the Islanders offered all their picks in the 2012 Entry draft for the Jackets 2nd pick, which was the highly coveted Ryan Murray).
Winnipeg Free Press: Team adds draft picks and intrigue. Controversy has erupted over the fact that after the 13 choices the past two Entry drafts the Jets have yet to draft a single player from overseas. Fans were also initially upset with the fact that the Jets chose defence over offence, although that complaint appears to have subsided. Which just goes to show that you can never please everyone.
Winnipeg Free Press: Scheifele to play vs. Russians. The Jets number one pick last year wants to stick with the team and has spent the past year improving his skills and adding muscle to his young frame. Will be interesting to see if he has any chemistry with Lukas Sutter who will also be on the team.
Winnipeg Sun: Gustavsson uncertain about future with Jets. Will be interesting to see what happens over the course of the next week in terms of the Jets goalie situation. If they don’t handle things properly we might be seeing Joe Caligiuri back in net.
Winnipeg Sun: Mason wants a deal. The Red Deer native would love to be back in the Peg’ next season and we should know next week if that is going to be the case or not.
2012 NHL Entry Draft:

Illegal Curve: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff scrums on Day 1 and Day 2. The sophomore GM spent day 1 talking about the selection of Jacob Trouba. Whereas day 2 was spent discussing the acquisition of the negotiating rights to Jonas Gustavsson as well as the players selected.
Illegal Curve: Entire list of Jets picks. Here are Rounds 1-7 of the players selected by your Winnipeg Jets.
Illegal Curve: 1st Pick 9th Overall Jacob Trouba. Getting to know your newest member of the 1st round club for the Winnipeg Jets including some pre-draft analysis of him and a link to his twitter account. Despite the initial concerns over drafting a defenceman, our IC Poll shows that almost 85% of you are happy with this pick.
General NHL news:
Edmonton Journal: Oilers in the running for prime unrestricted free agent Justin Schultz. Good news Jets fans, these Oilers should just be peaking when the Jets return to the Western Conference. Anyone else feel like they’re in a Hot tub Time Machine? Hello 1980’s.
Globe and Mail: Brian Burke still has work to do, especially on Luongo. It is down to Florida and Toronto as the likely destinations for the Canucks tender.
Globe and Mail: Canadiens make the most of their top four picks. Many expect the Habs to bounce back after the disaster they experienced last season.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Big-name free agents on pickup list? The Penguins figure to be big players once free agency starts next Sunday.
