Note II: Dynamo Moscow is rolling right now at 8W 0L and Jets prospect Dmitri Rashevsky (2021 5th) is rolling along with them. He used the space at 4 on 4 to create an opportunity to score his sixth goal of the season. It moved him into 4th overall in KHL scoring (6G 5A 11PTS in 8GP).  Check out the goal here.

Note III: Day 2 gets underway this morning out at the IcePlex starting at 10 AM. Check out the latest here.

Jets news:

Sportsnet: With no distractions in camp, Jets focused on returning to contender status. No contract holdouts, no major controversies. All this team has to do is figure out a few position spots and get ready to kick start their season.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Dubois looking forward after last season’s struggles. He knows he has a lot to prove this season and I suspect folks will see the best Pierre-Luc Dubois of his relatively short NHL career to date.

Winnipeg Sun: Perfetti flashes skill; Dillon announces himself with violence. In addition to writing about the Jets first rounder in 2020 and their acquisition from the Capitals, Scott touched on Blake Wheeler’s thoughts on having a balanced team and Sami Niku’s departure from Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Free Press: Hellebuyck was in a haze after contracting COVID-19. (Paywall). The Jets top netminder can handle 100 mph slap shots and he didn’t have any problem fielding questions about his bout with Covid 19 this summer.

Winnipeg Free Press: Reinvigorated Dubois eager to prove he’s worthy of thoroughbred billing. (Paywall). While there will be a focus on the past until he can get in some games to talk about the present it is clear that the Quebec product is ready to focus on the 2021-22 season.

Winnipeg Free Press: Wheeler keeps things on level as Jets open camp with optimism, few distractions. (Paywall). No surprise that the Jets captain is trying to keep a lid on the expectations but that is just his attempt to keep things manageable. He knows the pressure for success that will be on him and his entire group this season.

Winnipeg Free Press: D-man Niku, Winnipeg Jets agree: it was time to move on. (Paywall). Jason caught up with the smooth-skating Dman to discuss what went wrong and his path forward.

The Athletic Winnipeg:  Jets open training camp with smiles, chirps, highlights and urgency: ‘Our time’s running out’. (Paywall). Murat provides you with his insight on Jets camp so far.

Global News: Optimism high as Jets shift back to contender status. The Jets are going to have the weight of expectations back on their shoulders with the moves made during the offseason.  Ken sets the stage for seven players to watch during the coming weeks in his latest for Global.

Jets video:

TSN: Orlesky breaks down Jets’ top nine on first day of camp. Thursday marked the first day on ice for the Winnipeg Jets of this season’s training camp, and Paul Maurice took his players and split them into two main groups, with practices happening on separate sheets of ice before they came together for a scrimmage at the end. Sara Orlesky has more.

Sportsnet: Schmidt and Dillon already standing out on day one at Jets camp. Sean Reynolds and Ken Wiebe recap a busy Day 1 at Winnipeg Jets camp, where two new blueliners in Nate Schmidt and Brenden Dillon were already fitting in well, and where Pierre-Luc Dubois expects a huge bounce back season.

Sportsnet: 32 Thoughts Podcast. Pierre-Luc Dubois joined Jeff and Elliotte on the 32 Thoughts Podcast to discuss what he’s worked on this off-season, being traded in a pandemic and what he’s looking forward to this year.

Jets audio:

CJOB: Jets at Noon I joined Cam for a talk on the Jets covering training camp, prospects, configurations of the defence pairings, Eric Comrie as backup, Pierre-Luc Dubois bouncing back and more.
