Note: The Jets continue to practice as they prepare for a still to be determined opponent. They may know that answer tonight when the Leafs head to Montreal to play the Habs in game six of their series. The Jets are scheduled to practice today at 11 AM so check back for our Practice Report.

Note II: Be sure to join us on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show today as we will be chatting all about the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers this morning starting at 9:00 AM CDT. Today’s guests include Murat Ates (The Athletic), Justin Cuthbert (Yahoo Sports) and Brian Engblom (former NHLer, Lightning analyst). You’ll be able to watch via YouTube live here.  If you cannot watch live you will still be able to get the show via Podcast.

Jets news:

NHL.com: Pionk brings consistency, competitiveness to Jets in Stanley Cup Playoffs. He has certainly continued to elevate his game for this Winnipeg club, providing it with much needed backend stability.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets hoping Dubois can have significant impact as playoffs move forward. The reality with this move wasn’t for short-term success although that is certainly an expectation but it was made to solidify the team up the middle for years to come.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets enjoying their break, trying to stay sharp, as Habs and Leafs slug it out. No doubt those teams battling it out will be must watch television for the Jets coaching staff and players tonight.

Winnipeg Free Press: Waiting for Dubois to dominate. (Paywall). We have seen flashes but not yet the consistent production expected from him.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets coach has new lease on life after sweeping Oilers. (Paywall). Sounded in yesterday’s media availability like the Jets bench boss has learned the value of enjoying all aspects of the game and that is probably important as the team the last few years has sometimes felt too tight/serious.

Globe and Mail: Jets driven by dismissed chances against McDavid, Oilers. (Paywall). Nice to have Roy writing about the Jets again. This piece touches on the chip on the shoulder for a Winnipeg team that is a little Rodney Dangerfield esque (“They get no respect!”).

TSN: What do we make of the Winnipeg Jets? No real surprise for folks who have been paying attention when you see Connor Hellebuyck’s numbers.  As we’ve said for some time now, this team will go as far as he takes them.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Would the Jets prefer the Maple Leafs or Canadiens? Likeability, loatheability, chances of winning and more. (Paywall). The question since the Jets eliminated Edmonton on Monday night was which team will Winnipeg face?  However Murat looks into a number of factors in trying to determine which team the Jets would prefer to face.

Global News: Jets don’t mind a few extra days before their next series. No doubt that it helps to get some time between series, especially if the next opponent is beating up on each other.

Jets video:

TSN: Connor on series-clinching goal vs. Oilers, challenges Habs, Leafs present. Jets forward Kyle Connor joins That’s Hockey to break down his series-clinching goal against the Oilers in triple-overtime, share his take on the Maple Leafs/Canadiens series, discuss the challenges both teams would provide and much more.

TSN: Jets playing the waiting game but will enjoy the extra time off. Paul Stastny and the Jets are waiting patiently for their opponent in the next round and with the Maple Leafs and Canadiens headed to a Game 6, Stastny spoke about having the extra time off to enjoy the Champions League final and more importantly, refresh themselves mentally and physically.

TSN: Dubois feels the pressure to perform but Jets happy with his production. Pierre-Luc Dubois admitted that he has gone through a lot of ups and downs this season and says he has put pressure on himself to perform at the level he knows he can. Jets head coach Paul Maurice believes his game has been building in the right direction while Paul Stastny says Dubois does a good job of communicating on the ice.

Sportsnet: Can Pierre-Luc Dubois be the Jets X-factor heading into Round 2? Sean Reynolds and Ken Wiebe discuss whether or not Pierre-Luc Dubois could be the Winnipeg Jets’ X-factor in Round 2 and what the team has been doing with their extra time before meeting their next opponent.

Kenny & Renny: Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey joins Kenny and Renny. The boys chatted with the affable defenceman on Friday afternoon on a range of topics including the Jets-Oilers series, Sean’s hair team, ruining Sean’s playoff pool and a lot more.

Jets audio:

Sportsnet: 31 Thoughts Podcast.  They chat about the Jets and Oilers series starting at the 36 minute mark.
