Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Unlikely heroes stepped up for Jets in Game 1 win over Oilers. That seems to be the way of playoff hockey when you can find a guy or two to step up when needed.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets defy the odds, stun Oilers in Game 1 of playoff series. Connor Hellebuyck had to be the best player for Winnipeg and the team needed to be committed to playing a tighter style of game, both of which took place on Wednesday night.

Winnipeg Sun: The view from the COVID couch on Jets-Oilers. Not sure that title doesn’t make it seem like Paul has covid but the point was he is giving his observations from home rather than the road which is where he would normally be at this time of year.

Edmonton Sun: Stubborn Jets get jump on Edmonton Oilers with Game 1 victory. Read about last night’s contest from a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets shut down Oilers’ dynamic duo in 4-1 win. (Paywall).  Mike recaps last night’s contest.

Sportsnet: Unsung heroes shine as Jets flip script vs. Oilers in Game 1If someone asked you to pick the first two guys who would score for Winnipeg don’t think anyone (maybe even including the players themselves) would have selected Poolman and Toninato.  And yet they did.  Ken has more on the game.

Sportsnet: Oilers learn familiar lesson as Jets grind out Game 1 win. Nothing ever comes easy in the playoffs.  Jets are going to get a determined bunch on Friday.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Winnipeg’s Game 1 win builds confidence the Jets didn’t have in 2019. (Paywall). While the local NHL club has positioned themselves into a good spot they will need to build on it for game 2.

TSN: How did the Jets shut down McDavid in Game 1? Craig Button joins Glenn Schiiler to share his thoughts on how the Jets were able to keep Connor McDavid off the scoresheet in Game 1, take a closer look at a solid 32-save performance from Connor Hellebuyck and how two 27-year old journeymen made an impact for Winnipeg.

TSN: Jets erase lopsided season series, neutralize McDavid in huge Game 1 winDespite winning only two of nine games against the Oilers this season and missing two key players, the Jets pulled out a huge win over the Oilers in Game 1. The TSN Hockey panel discusses how significant the victory was for Winnipeg, break down an impressive performance by Connor Hellebuyck, and takes a closer look at how the Jets were able to limit Connor McDavid.

TSN: Post 2 Post: Hellebuyck vs. Smith. The Jets have reigning Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck in net, while the Oilers have 39-year old veteran Mike Smith who is experiencing a renaissance of his career. So who has the edge in goal? Jamie McLennan takes a closer look in this edition of Post 2 Post.
