Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note: This week Jets 2017 3rd rounder Johnny Kovacevic and I had a lengthy discussion which we will feature today as he shared his reflections on his first year pro in Winnipeg and looked ahead to the upcoming season.  You can read it here.

Note II: Over in Sweden it was a battle of Jets prospects last night as Arvid Holm (2017 6th) got back in the win column with his Färjestad clud as they defeated Simon Lundmark (2019 2nd) and Linköping 5-1. Holm made 27 saves on 28 shots. Lundmark had one shot on net in 14:33 minutes of ice time.

Note III:  Today we learned that Finnish forwards Joona Luoto and Kristian Vesalainen were returning to Winnipeg for training camp according to their respective teams in Liiga.

Toronto Sun:  Hello all-Canadian Division and playoff intensity from start to finish; see ya later, Netflix.  There is no doubt that these seven teams facing each other almost 10 times in this bizzaro season is certainly going to add an element that we are not used to seeing.  The second game of two played in the AHL is almost always more intense and it should be equally that way in the NHL.  

The Athletic Winnipeg:  Q&A: Murat Ates answers your Jets questions. (Paywall).  Fans had questions and Murat had answers.  There were 55 questions that the affable Murat responded to running the range of Kyle Connor’s defensive growth to questions on D and everything in-between.

TSN:  All-Canadian division, hybrid bubbles will bring rivalries to ‘a whole different level’.  Canadian clubs already have some of the best rivalries in hockey and things are set to heat up even more in the upcoming year, as teams are expected to face each other nine times during the shortened season. TSN Hockey analyst Dave Poulin joins That’s Hockey to share his thoughts on the potential of hybrid bubbles in the NHL.

Sportsnet: Why not make the All-Canadian NHL Division permanent?  Tim & Sid posed the question of why the reported All-Canadian division couldn’t be a permanent change to the NHL realignment.
