Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  It has been a big week both inside and outside the sports world which means we are not going to lack for conversation on today’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN 1290 Winnipeg which gets underway at 9 AM and runs for three hours.  Plenty of Winnipeg Jets and NHL talk so we hope you’ll join us for that here.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets’ DeMelo shows solid Twitter chops.  He may not pick up many PIMs on the ice but off of it the Jets Dman wasn’t afraid to defend the position he took in supporting his fellow NHL players in postponing the playoff games.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Hunting for help on the back end.  He takes a look at a Dman who has been the target of some ire in Toronto who he sees as a potential fit in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets GM has to get team heading in right direction, or consequences could be dire. (Paywall).  While folks last summer could point to the big contract deals for Patrik Laine and Kyle Connor this summer is gonna prove to be a lot more important as Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff attempts to get this team back on their championship course.  Mike looks at all the things on Cheveldayoff’s checklist.  

NHL news:

Sportsnet:  How players pushed the game aside to take a stand against systemic racism.  Chris with a look at how the players got engaged and made this happen.

TSN:  Hockey needs much more than a moment.  If nothing else happens than a pause for a few days then what was really accomplished?  The importance is taking this moment and turning it into something that is sustainable and has a long lasting impact.
