Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  Yesterday saw some player movement as group 1 lost seven players who moved on up to the group 2.  Despite this restructuring there were a number of players who still hadn’t taken part in training camp in the first three days including Laurent Brossoit, Nelson Nogier, Logan Stanley and Anthony Bitetto.  You can also hear from coach Paul Maurice from his media availability on Wednesday here.

Note II:  Today will see group 1 hit the ice at 9:45 AM (with Laurent Brossoit and Nelson Nogier expected to join them) while group 2 takes to it at 11:15 AM.  Be sure to keep it locked here for day 4 training camp coverage.  Update:  Check out today’s media availability with Paul Maurice here.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets blue-liners feeling confident with Vezina-candidate Hellebuyck behind them.  It was interesting hearing from the trifecta of defencemen today talking about how Hellebuyck allows them to be more aggressive and have more confidence because they trust in his ability.

Winnipeg Sun: Laine’s game like lost luggage: ‘Still far away’.   The talented Finn was at his dry best on Wednesday as he showed midseason form in that area.  Paul wrote about Laine’s game, a healthy Beaulieu and the hockey being played this summer.

Winnipeg Sun:  Adversity in their pocket, ‘strong-headed’ Jets eye COVID Cup.  With one of the top goalies in the entire NHL and a pretty decent squad there is a chance for Winnipeg to go on quite a little run this summer.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Laine scraping off some rust.  (Paywall).  It is certainly gonna be interesting to watch these guys in a game setting.  The Leafs are doing five game scrimmages and you wonder how many the Jets will do in order to simulate some game action.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Maurice has Jets roster all set.  (Paywall).  With all players healthy it isn’t much of a surprise as to which Jets will be getting the initial call to play.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jury still out on the Winnipeg Jets defence.  Mike went back to his crime reporting days for the theme of this article.

Sportsnet:  Why the battle-tested Jets could be a sleeper team come playoffs.  Ken makes the case as to why the Jets shouldn’t be taken lightly by any opponents in this NHL re-start.
