Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note: This is day 61 since the NHL and AHL hit the pause button on their respective 2019-20 seasons.

Note II:  The AHL Board of Governors held a meeting on Friday where it was discussed cancelling the remainder of the season.  Things weren’t looking too promising for the Manitoba Moose who sat last in the Central Division (seven points back of 4th place) with 15 games left.  Stay tuned to find out the fate of the Jets affiliate.  Update:  The AHL made it official this morning that they have cancelled the regular season and playoffs.  I took a look at some of the bright spots as well as noteworthy events from the past season. Jets news:

The Athletic Winnipeg: Q&A with Grant Clitsome: On forced retirement and guiding athletes post-career. (Paywall – 90 day free option).  Murat had a chance to catch up with the former Jets D man.

Winnipeg Sun:   Plenty of options for Cheveldayoff if NHL moves forward with June draft.  While the date of the draft remains unknown Scott tries his hand at prognosticating whom the Jets will select whenever the 2020  NHL draft takes place.

Global News:  Paul Maurice on paused NHL season, Dustin Byfuglien and what the Jets are doing in isolation.  Little chat (which you can listen to) with the Jets bench boss which is covered in this article.

Sportsnet:  Mixed feelings around hockey about holding NHL draft early.  I still fail to understand the need to rush the draft.  If you believe you are gonna have a season then you have a draft when the season concludes.  It really makes no sense to hold it in advance of the league making a decision to either proceed or cancel the remainder of the 2019-20 season.
