Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note: This is day 27 since the NHL and AHL hit the pause button on their respective 2019-20 seasons.  Jets captain Blake Wheeler sent a personal message of thanks to health care workers here in Manitoba on Monday.

Note II:  Today Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey will be participating in a conference call at 11 AM.  I will have it covered for Illegal Curve and will post it on here when it is available.

Note III:  The Jets announced they have signed 2017 2nd rounder Dylan Samberg to a three-year ELC.  Conference call with him at 2 PM and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff at 3 PM.  Update:  Check out the conference call with Samberg here.

Illegal Curve:  No update on Bryan Little.  While the resumption of the paused season seems like a longshot one talking point was a potential return of veteran centre Bryan Little if the season did resume.  Yesterday in his chat coach Paul Maurice didn’t have any additional information on a timeline for Little.

TSN: “I want to see this Winnipeg Jets team play”.  Jets play-by-play announcer Dennis Beyak recaps all the details from head coach Paul Maurice’s video conference on Monday, where the Jets stand as the NHL remains paused and what is most important at this point in time.

Winnipeg Sun:  Disappointment of paused season weighed on Jets’ Maurice.  Scott details the feelings of the Jets bench boss.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Maurice longs to see Jets perform in playoffs.  (Paywall).  Mostly healthy and on a streak it certainly was gonna make for an interesting conclusion to the 2019-20 season.

Sportsnet:  Paused NHL season could complicate Jets’ plans to re-sign Eakin, DeMelo.  If you’re Kevin Cheveldayoff you get DeMelo signed asap.

TSN:  Which Connor was Maurice more impressed with this season?  Paul Maurice joins James Duthie to discuss how the Jets were preparing for the return of the NHL season and why he felt like his team was poised for a strong playoff run, what he hopes the playoff format looks like if the season resumes and the play of Connor Hellebuyck, Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine this season.

JetsTV:  Head coach Paul Maurice conference call.  The bench boss of Winnipeg spent about 30 minutes fielding questions from connectivity to his players to the various globes on the shelves behind him during the interview.

Moose news:

Illegal Curve:  Moose head coach Pascal Vincent says Jansen Harkins is his best story of the season.  I had a 30 minute chat with the bench boss of Manitoba on Monday and when we concluded the interview with a question about his favourite moment of the season he began his answer with “Jansen Harkins. Has to be. It has to be”.  Of course he goes into much greater details about the rise of the 2015 2nd rounder.
