Jets news:
Jets official site: Plays of the Year – Round 1, Match-up 2. Ladd against the Bruins vs. Mason against the Ducks. Both good plays. Interestingly, had Selanne scored against the Jets it would have been the only other goal by an opposition player (aside from Stamkos hitting 60 in last game of year) that Jets fans would have cheered this year. Vote and you can win some prizes.
CTV: Jets test the economics of home ice advantage. Sounds like Jets fans at the MTS Centre at least helped offset some of the penalties the team may have taken. What are your thoughts of this study?
Winnipeg Free Press: Signing Pav top of mind. Never considered the possibility of Pavs signing with a KHL team. Of course while it would be unexpected, don’t think his agent won’t use this to try and secure his client more funds in his next contract with the Jets.
The Hockey Writers: Five Dos and Dont’s for the Jets’ offseason. Not many people have lost focus on Winnipeg. Especially with the June draft and July free agency, this team will continue to make news.
Affiliate news – St. John’s IceCaps:
The Telegram: Scheifele’s season goes to overtime. Started season in NHL, then played full season of Junior hockey and now ending year with AHL playoffs. Been quite the 2011/12 for the Jets first pick in the 2011 Entry Draft.
The Post-Standard: Crunch need to get two wins on “The Rock” to extend its season. Both teams are going to be desperate to win Wednesday’s game 3 to gain the advantage in the Best of 5 series.
Stanley Cup news:
Globe and Mail: Luongo willing to waive no-trade clause. Paging Brian Burke. Paging Brian Burke. While it is not a guarantee that he is done in Vancity, which team in the NHL needs him most? And which team can accommodate that monster contract?
Miami Herald: Panthers look to close out Devils. Every single game through 5 in this series has seen one team or the other jump out to a 3 goal advantage. With the exception of a Florida comeback in Game 3, this has ensured victory for the team that took this impressive lead. Both teams are going to be playing desperate hockey so it should be a good one tonight.
Miami Herald: Rat crackdown. Add it to post season traditions like the Detroit Octopus and the playoff beard. I’m a fan of the rat throw and am glad that the team is still allowing their fans to continue this tradition, even if they are no longer selling rats in the arena.
Star-Ledger: Kovalchuk on facing elimination – “We’re not done yet”. If the Devils want to force a game 7 then they need this guy to start firing the puck. He can absolutely dominate a game when motivated.
Star-Ledger: Martin Brodeur won’t qualify this as potential worst loss ever. When you have lost in the Stanley Cup or Conference Finals against a bitter rival, it is difficult to qualify a 1st Round loss as anything more than disappointing.
Globe and Mail: Round 2 shaping up to be a weird one for NHL. All 4 team’s in the West have never won a Stanley Cup and if the Panthers/Senators and Capitals can upset the Devils/Rangers and Bruins only the Flyers in the East will have won the Cup.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Blues vs. Kings a ‘nasty’ series is forecast. Should be a really exciting series. All four games were close during the regular season with LA winning the season series.
The Tennessean: Nashville Predators’ Paul Gaustad, Andrei Kostitsyn master system. For a team not known for making ‘big trades’ the Predators had to show to their players and their fans that they were serious about making a big playoff push this year.
