Note: The Jets held an optional practice out at the IcePlex on Monday as they got themselves ready to wrap up this six-game homestand tonight against the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings were busy yesterday as well as they traded away Tyler Toffoli to the Vancouver Canucks, which means he and his 18 goals will not be in the lineup tonight against Winnipeg. Morning skate gets underway at 10:30 AM so be sure to check back for the pre-game report for the latest news and audio. Puck drop is at 7 PM.
Note II: The Moose couldn’t end their six-game homestand on a high note as they fell to the Milwaukee Admirals 4-1 yesterday afternoon. Neither team scored in the 1st period but three goals in just over three minutes early in the 2nd would prove to be enough for the win as the best team in the AHL capitalized on mistakes made by the Moose. The Moose finished the homestand with a 2-4-0-0 record and their playoff chances remain bleak. The team heads out to Laval today to kick off three games against Canadian teams.
Jets news:
CBC: Fuelled by diminishing passion? What softer demand for Winnipeg Jets tickets means for True North. An interesting but not altogether surprising read on the situation. The Field of Dreams “if you build it they will come” mantra no longer works for pro sports. Now fans require entertainment to go along with their sports.
Winnipeg Free Press: Who is the real Roslovic? If anyone thought Roslovic was a Connor clone they really haven’t been paying attention. Mike chats one on one with the 25th overall pick of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Winnipeg Free Press: Sandy Bay high school hockey team gets practice session with Jets coaching staff. What a cool experience for this community.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Scheifele slumping at both ends. Scheifele seemed to be struggling recently and I am not sure if it was the flu or the fact that he has spent at least the last few games getting knocked around pretty heavily by the opposition. Wise words from both Laine and Ehlers.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets Notebook. Paul’s notes include: 1) Jets say they’re ‘battling their asses off’. 2) Laine wants to see less dangle, or there will be no playoff payoff. 3) penalty-free games old hat for Leafs.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Ranking the top 5 trade deadline deals GM Kevin Cheveldayoff has made with the Jets. (Paywall). Ken looks at it when the Jets were both buyers and sellers.
The Athletic Winnipeg: How a competitive ‘call to action’ affects the Jets defence, their playoff spot and Kevin Cheveldayoff at the trade deadline. (Paywall). Murat looks at the idea of “action” and how it impacts decision making in different ways regarding this Jets team.
NHL.com: Jets looking for right fit ahead of Trade Deadline, GM says. Tim had a Q&A with Kevin Cheveldayoff where he asks him about the team trade strategy, Byfuglien, finality of the Little situation (for this season) and more.
Sportsnet: Jets Trade Tiers: Will Winnipeg trade a star forward to bolster defence? You can read it but they reference Adam Lowry as a winger, Sami Niku is apparently a right shot D man and they suggest Dmitry Kulikov is still signed after this season. Reader beware.
