Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Drugs, celebrity issues in trialIf he was not an NHL player you would have to imagine this would have been settled already.

Rogue:  Covering the Winnipeg Jets and their first season backMarianne Helm took pictures of the Jets for Getty Images and she shares some of the images that stood out for her in a season to remember.

Affiliate news – St. John’s IceCaps:

The Telegram:  St. John’s and Syracuse open their first-round series tonightThe Caps put their strong road record on the line tonight in Syracuse.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Scheifele to cap season in St. John’sColts coach and former Jets star Dale Hawerchuk  continues to sing the praises of his young star (as well as Telegin’s).  There won’t be much rest for Scheifele though as he will still need to add some muscle over the summer to help him compete next season for a spot on the roster.

The Telegram:  Scheifele assigned to IceCapsIn case you missed it, the Jets have assigned their 1st pick in the 2011 Entry Draft to the IceCaps for their post season run.  However he will not be joining the team in New York, where they will be taking on the Syracuse Crunch in Games 1 & 2 of the 1st round.  Instead he will head to St. John’s and join the team when they return for Game 3.

Post-Standard:  Crunch hope to ride confidence of earlier win against St. John’sWhile this team hasn’t had much post season success of late (1st appearance since 2007/08), they are the 2nd hottest team coming into the playoffs.  They are riding a 15-3-1-1 record since they turned things around against the IceCaps at the beginning of March.

Stanley Cup news:

Washington Post:  Semin doesn’t say much about game-winning goalThat Semin shot, which turned out to be the game winning goal was a laser beam.  Would have been difficult enough to save if it was shot clear, but Bruins goalie Tim Thomas had big Zdeno Chara blocking his vantage point.

NHL.com:  Statement on clock operation from Game 4 Washington/BostonThe clock was left off as the game was concluding giving the Bruins an additional 5.3 seconds of play.  The time keeper was trying to signal the ref that they needed to add .9 seconds back onto the clock but it was too loud and they were unable to get the refs attention.  Had Boston scored with less than 5.3 seconds to go, the goal would not have counted.  Can you imagine that controversy?

Star-Ledger:  In Devils’ win over Panthers, Kovalchuk’s goal brings some reliefHe certainly made no mistake as he blew his shot past Clemmensen for his 2nd goal of the playoffs.

ESPN:  At 39, Brodeur show he’s still got itIs there anything he cannot do?  Answering the naysayers, he came back with a spirited performance, and overtook Patrick Roy to move into sole possession as the playoff shutout leader with 24.

Chicago Tribune:  Hawks need top scorers to kick it into high gearThe Hawks did not play with a desperation until it was almost too late.

St. Louis Dispatch:  Blues drain the Shark tankThere has not been a lot of talk about St. Louis but after taking both games in San Jose and taking a 3-1 stranglehold on the series, the Blues are garnering some much deserved attention.

Suspension/Fine news:

NHL.com:  Blackhawks’ Quenneville fined $10,000.00.
