Note II:  The Jets gave up two goals in the 3rd period and Jordan Binnington made 24 saves to help the Blues pick up a 2-1 win last night in Game 1 of this Best-of-7 series.  Today the Jets are scheduled to practice at 12 AM at Bell MTS Place as they get ready for Game 2 tomorrow night.  Be sure to check out the Practice Report for the latest news and audio.

Note III:  The Moose leave today for Michigan where they will kick off the final road trip of the regular season.  They will play three games in three days beginning with a Friday night date against the Grand Rapids Griffins.  Last night saw Iowa win and Texas lose so Manitoba slipped to 5th but they still have a game in hand.  It is muddled in the Central.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Blues score late to take Game 1 against JetsKen recaps the action from his spot inside Bell MTS Place.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets, Blues spark new playoff rivalryThese two cities haven’t met in an NHL playoff series since 1982 but it didn’t take long to renew that Norris disdain (still seems odd to think of the Jets 1.0 as not being part of the Smythe Division).  That aside I did feel inside Bell MTS Place that you could sense the hostility between the two clubs early on in the game.

Winnipeg Sun:  Whiteout hits Winnipeg as fans come to partyThat’s about the only acceptable type of Whiteout that folks in Winnipeg will accept this far into spring.  Quite a number of characters in attendance at the Street Party.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Binnington, Blues stun Jets with 2-1 win to take series lead.  (Paywall).  Jason provides his perspective on last night’s game.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Inability to protect lead dooms Jets once again.  (Paywall).  It is certainly a worrying trend for those that support the local NHL squad.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets unite city.  (Paywall).  No question that most folks are having Whiteout fever these days.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Suddenly healthy D-corps means press box loaded with Jets blue-liners.  (Paywall).  It was quite the group but if you have any expectations of going deep it is a necessity.

Globe and Mail:  Jets drop Game 1 to the Blues in battle of the goaltenders It certainly felt like a game that would be won when one of the teams got to two goals.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch:  Blues jump out on top in series vs. Jets.  (Survey Required).  Read about the game from the perspective of someone who covers the Blues.

Sportsnet: Jets play supporting role to Blues in series-opening chapter. Hockey is a funny game. A post here, a missed net there and it could be a vastly different result and narrative. Instead it has created some adversity.

Sportsnet: Jets can’t hold onto lead, drop punishing series opener to Blues. Not the first time we’ve read that headline this season or even this morning.

CBC: Jets drop fiercely bitter playoff opener to the BluesAnother recap of the action.

The Athletic Winnipeg: From No. 1 to No. 27, a ranking of the Jets in order of importance to Winnipeg’s playoff success. (Paywall).  Murat gives his ranking.  Check out his assessment of this Jets squad.

Jets video:

TSN: Binnington’s brilliance primes Blues for third period surge. There was a sigh of relief for Jets fans when Patrik Laine opened the scoring, but Winnipeg couldn’t beat Jordan Binnington for the second goal and it ultimately left the door open for a third period comeback from St. Louis. The TSN Hockey panel breaks down the Blues’ Game 1 win and what adjustments Winnipeg needs to make for Friday.

TSN: Blues’ late attack forced Jets into multiple mistakes. The Blues were on the attack in the third period and it resulted in a pair of goals that would help them stun the Jets late in Game 1. Craig Button takes a closer look at the pressure the Blues are able to apply and how Jordan Binnington kept them in the game when they were trailing.

TSN: Aside from third period let down, Jets have lots to build off in Game 1. For forty minutes the Jets seemed to be comfortable with their one-goal lead over the Blues, but St. Louis tilted the ice in the third and finally solved Connor Hellebuyck. Sara Orlesky and Darren Dreger discuss some positives the Jets can take from the loss.

TSN: Button explains why he hates the Blues matchup for the Jets. The entire purpose of the regular season is to put yourself in position for a good, long playoff run. But despite finishing just one point out of top spot in the Central, Craig Button explains on That’s Hockey why he hates the opening round matchup for the Jets.

Sportsnet: Mark Scheifele spends every waking moment thinking hockey. Jets forward Mark Scheifele still has a vivid memory of being drafted the moments leading up to it, and still spends every waking moment of every day thinking about hockey.
