Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets are coming off an ugly 3-2 loss to the Wild in the first game of this two-game homestand.  They had an off day on Wednesday and will be back in business today for a practice as they prepare for the Predators who will be here tomorrow night in a battle for 1st place in the central division.  Practice gets underway at Bell MTS Place at 11 am and the Practice Report will bring you up to speed.

Note II:  The Moose got a big boost on Wednesday morning with the return of Mason Appleton/Tucker Poolman from the Jets and Peter Stoykewych/Skyler McKenzie from injury and they used it to their benefit in an early morning school day game against the Marlies in Toronto.  They opened up a two goal lead which the Marlies got back in the middle frame but Seth Griffith gave the Moose a critical regulation win as he scored his second goal of the game with 34 seconds left in the game.  The win improved Manitoba to 26-25-3-2 and just four points back of Rockford for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Central Division (with two games in hand).

Sportsnet:  31 Thoughts.  Some mention of Winnipeg in the preamble (re: Stone) and then in thought 9 (Simmonds) and 10 (Matt Hendricks).

Winnipeg Free Press:  Former captain Tkachuk likes the look of Jets, but his sons’ teams and NHL employer come first.  (Paywall).  Mike caught up with the former member of the Winnipeg Jets 1.0 who was in town the last couple of days.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets have issues, and third periods are near the top.  In addition to the third period issues Paul writes about the chemistry issues, Myers/Kulikov play, first impressions of Nathan Beaulieu, the Hendricks factor, hanging on till April and Maurice’s words.

NHL: Hayes expects to play up and down lineup with Jets.  Suspect he will be moving up the lineup sooner rather than later as he gets more and more comfortable with this squad.
