Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  While the Jets started their Christmas break on Saturday after their 1-0 win over the Canucks the NHL still played games on Sunday.  However none of those games would impact the Jets standing which courtesy of their 24-10-2 record is good enough for 1st spot in the Western Conference and their 50 points puts them in 2nd overall behind Tampa Bay (58 pts) with one game in hand.  The break comes at a good time as it will allow Andrew Copp and Adam Lowry to further mend and both are expected back on Thursday when the Jets take on the red-hot Calgary Flames.

Note II:  If the break came at a good time for the Jets it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Manitoba Moose who are down eight (yes eight) players from their roster.  They currently sit last in the Central Division with an 11-16-2-0 record.  They will be back in action for practice this weekend and then welcome the AHL’s newest team the Colorado Eagles for the first time to Bell MTS Place on Sunday, December 30th at 2 pm.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  10-2 record in December puts Winnipeg in prime position.  Ken indicates that this is a team that is still looking for their complete game and if the one we are seeing is the incomplete one I suspect others teams are gonna be in for some pain when they do start firing on all cylinders.

Winnipeg Sun:  Fifth grader gets chance to hang with Jets.  What a great way to make a young man a fan for life and help welcome him to Canada.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Ugly victories? Jets will take them.  (Paywall).  The standings bank don’t care how you fill it but simply that it is getting filled up with points.

Global News:  Winnipeg hockey fans lace up to skate at Bell MTS Place, home of the Jets and Moose.  Always fun for fans to get a chance to get out onto the ice where they are normally watch the players skate.
