Note:  It was an incredibly busy day 1 of Jets training camp as the team kicked things off with the on-ice testing at the IcePlex.  We heard from Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, coach Paul Maurice and a number of players.  The day concluded with the team revealing the third jersey that will be worn 14 times this season.

Note II:  Today’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show will be live and on location at Bell MTS IcePlex as we kick off three hours of Winnipeg Jets and NHL hockey talk on TSN Radio 1290.  If you are at the IcePlex come by and say hello!

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets could carry slimmer roster to pinch pennies.  (Paywall).  The capologists in the organization will have their hands full this season as they work to ensure the team is within the cap.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets centreman hopes to bounce back after offensive struggles last year.  (Paywall).  After spending so many seasons as the top centre in this organization some thought Bryan Little would be dropped to the third line in favour of the younger Jack Roslovic.  Doesn’t appear to be happening according to coach Maurice.

Winnipeg Sun: Trouba leaves door open as Jets defenceman keeps focus on presentNot a shocker that he is trying to keep things separate.

Winnipeg Sun:  Ken’s NotebookIncludes 1) Little looks for more. 2) Maurice isn’t sure about roster composition. 3) Myers moving to off side?

CBC: Leaner Laine credits ‘smart dude’ Scheifele for better eating habits. Commitment during the summer to next level training may go a long way this season.

Jets video:

Sportsnet: Jets come into camp confident, with something to prove. Sean Reynolds reports from Winnipeg where the Jets are looking to prove last season was no fluke.

TSN: Morrissey, Nurse in a similar but different situations.  Josh Morrissey and Darnell Nurse are both restricted free agents and neither of them are with their respective teams in camp. That’s Hockey explains how both are in the same, yet different situations with the Jets and Oilers.

TSN: Missing Morrissey and replacing Stastny. The Jets took part in their on-ice fitness testing on Friday morning but one notable absentee was defenceman Josh Morrissey, who is still undergoing contract talks with the team. Sara Orlesky has more and reports on the task to replace Paul Stastny and who will be counted on to pair up with Dustin Byfuglien.
