Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  A big day for Winnipeg sports as the Jets have a chance to move into the Western Conference Final for the first time ever for an NHL franchise in this city. Of course the players will be trying to treat this like any other day and just another game.  They have morning skate at Bell MTS Place at 11 am with puck drop at 8:30 pm tonight.  Our Jets playoff pre-game report will set up all the action.

Note II:  The Moose are scheduled to practice today at 10:30 am at the IcePlex as they look to bounce back from two losses over the weekend in their Division Final against the Rockford IceHogs.  They will play games 3, 4 and 5 on the road at BMO Harris Bank Center in Illinois.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets Snapshots.  Paul’s list includes: 1) Jets look to close out Preds, Monday, but don’t expect a cakewalk. 2) Wheeler points to Stastny deal as key. 3) Maurice says Jets are best team he’s had, by far.

Winnipeg Sun: Preds’ Subban says there will be a Game 7. Hard to expect him to say anything else. Obviously he could have said nothing but it isn’t that shocking of a comment.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets top line heats up.  It has been an impressive run for this trio.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets hitting all the right notes.  It has been quite the run and tonight we will see if the Jets (and their crowd) can hit the highest of high notes.

Winnipeg Sun:  Who needs the Vezina? — Jets’ Hellebuyck outplaying Rinne when it counts most.  Individual awards are nice but the collective reward of the Stanley Cup would probably be worth a little more to the netminder from Michigan.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Coach confident Jets can tough it out in Game 6 against Preds.  (Paywall).  Wouldn’t expect him to be anything other than that in the team he has playing for him especially given how well they played last game.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Captain Epiphany saw the light.  (Paywall).  While he wasn’t able to pinpoint an exact date/game when it dawned on him that this team was more than just gonna be players I suspect the moment the team acquired Paul Stastny played a big role.

New York Times: The Lonely Existence of Winnipeg Jets Fans in Atlanta.  Great story and a reminder that there was a small but extremely loyal base of fans in Atlanta, some of whom as illustrated in the article, continue to support the Jets.  It is why words matter when folks casually dismiss the ties to Atlanta from where this reborn Jets franchise came from.
