Note: The Jets held an optional skate on Saturday although plenty of players and coach Maurice spoke following skate. The Jets will have their morning skate at 10:30 and the Jets pre-game report will bring you up to speed.
Note II: The Moose will have another day of practice today as they prepare to face the Griffins in the fifth and final game of their 1st round series with the defending Calder Cup champions. The big news on Sunday was that Grand Rapids (and former Jets forward) Eric Tangradi was suspended for a cross-check he delivered in game 4. That’s a big loss as he is the third leading scorer in the playoffs for Grand Rapids. The team will practice today at 12 noon.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Paul’s Notebook. Paul covers some topics including: 1) Jets want much more, plan to keep foot on the pedal. 2) Game 1 surprisingly tame affair. 3) Preds coach turning the page. 4) Jets plane survives pounding, too.
Winnipeg Sun: Ken’s Notebook. Ken covers some topics including: 1) No mental edge for Jets after Rinne pulling. 2) Hot starts a factor. 3) Perreault progressing.
Winnipeg Sun: Laine has flair for the dramatic. This kid is cool as a cucumber and certainly doesn’t wilt when put on a bigger stage.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets fans willing to shell out big bucks to be part of playoff series in. For folks around these parts the experience of going to another city to watch Jets playoff hockey isn’t exactly a common activity although the way this team is built for the future it may become a more regular activity.
Winnipeg Free Press: Perreault skates, closes in on return to active duty. (Paywall). All the time off between the 1st and 2nd round did wonders for the Jets as they work back towards a fully healthy roster. While that is unrealistic in the playoffs the relative health of the forward corp has allowed the team to slowly bring back guys like Perreault back into the lineiup.
Winnipeg Free Press: After stealing one, Jets plan on winning another. (Paywall). Winning a game when you aren’t playing your best was good but the fact is the Jets know they can be much better than what they showed in game one.
The Tennessean: Preds’ Game 2 objective is to solve Hellebuyck. Suspect a lot of tape has been watched of the Jets netminders hoping to find the chink in his armour.
The Tennessean: Three things to watch in game 2 between Preds vs. Jets. Adam’s list includes: 1) Quality over quantity. 2) Pressure’s on at home. 3) Watson’s status uncertain.
Fox Sports Tennessee: Predators hope to turn shots into goals vs. Jets. Sometimes volume isn’t as significant as you may think if the quality isn’t particularly good.
Sportsnet: Off-ice passion, on-ice progress made Predators an expansion home run. Big piece of this puzzle is GM David Poile who has been a steadying influence on this franchise since its inception.
Global News: Winnipeg Jets fans beaming with pride in enemy Nashville territory. Hockey doesn’t necessarily have the same level of antipathy as you may find as a Broncos fan wearing a Denver jersey to Oakland (for example).
Global News: Winnipeg vs. Nashville – How similar histories are creating a storied rivalry. I like when folks look for the commonality between hockey markets rather than finding the need to denigrate the other in an attempt to make yourself look good.
Jets video:
TSN: Jets ready for a better effort in Game 2. Connor Hellebuyck was nothing short of spectacular in the Jets win over Nashville Friday, especially considering Winnipeg was outshot 48-19. As much as the Jets relied on their goaltender, the numbers can be misleading. Sara Orlesky explains.
TSN: Inside look at Predators’ fish-throwing tradition. Catfish Jake, who has been arrested for throwing a catfish on the Penguins’ home ice before, takes ESPN inside the process of smuggling a fish into the arena and throwing it on the Predators’ home ice.
