Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets are back on the ice today as folks await word about their sniper Patrik Laine who was knocked out of the game on Tuesday by a 2nd period Alec Martinez slap shot.  Darren Dreger of TSN didn’t really have much news on Wednesday other than Laine could miss a few games but that it wasn’t long term, but with the team off it was the only word we heard about the 43 goal scorer.  It is unknown whether he will be on the ice for today’s 11 am practice and if he isn’t we will have an update from Jets Head Coach Paul Maurice afterwards which will be contained in the Jets Practice Report.

Note II:  The Moose are ready to kick off eight straight games at Bell MTS Place as they look to clinch their first playoff berth since they moved back to Winnipeg.  Morning skate gets underway at 10 am and puck drop is at 7 pm with the Stockton Heat in town for a pair of games.  As always we will have complete coverage on site.

Jets news:

TSN:  Pondering a postseason deployment plan.  An interesting look at which Jets players play well together and who does not.  

Winnipeg Sun:  Scoring down for Lowry, discipline up.  The truth is this team has more than enough offence and while Lowry did hit career highs last season (which he may have eclipsed had he stayed healthy) that isn’t the role he fulfills on this roster.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets Lowry dishing out the hurt.  There was some thought the young centre would slowly dip his toes into the water but instead he is cannon balling into the deep end of the pool.

CBC:  Paul Stastny hopes to help young Jets weather inevitable turbulence of playoffs.  He has looked so natural with those two talented wingers that Jets fans are breaking out their abacus to see if he can be fit under the salary cap moving forward.

Yahoo Canada:  Kyle Connor not getting his due in Laine’s shadow.  If the Jets rookie can get three more goals that is quite a trio he would be joining in the rookies with 30 goal seasons.  

Sportsnet:  Canada’s NHL playoff hopes riding on two vastly different teams.    Something tells me folks outside of Ontario will likely throw their weight behind Winnipeg to end the drought that has been ongoing since 1993.

TSN:  Laine still being evaluated, but Jets hopeful.  TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger has the latest on Patrik Laine after he left Tuesday’s game against the Kings after blocking a shot and touches on Jacob Trouba being in concussion protocol.

TSN: Laine’s recent dominance. Before getting injured on Tuesday night, Patrik Laine had been on quite the run posting 18 goals over his last 15 games. SportsCentre goes inside the numbers on his hot streak.
