Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets completed their six-game road trip last night in Nashville with a tough 3-1 loss.  Overall the team went 3-2-1 and sit comfortably in the second spot in the Central Division.  The team is off today which is unfortunate considering there are plenty of injury questions surrounding Stastny, Hutchinson, Kulikov although there may be good news around the corner as well about Scheifele, Trouba and Lowry.  Check out the Jets Injury Report for a recap.   The Jets will be back on the ice for morning skate at 10:30 am on Thursday as they prepare to face the Blackhawks which is the first of six straight they will play at Bell MTS Place.

Note II:  After completing 17 straight against the Central Division on Sunday afternoon the Moose have spent the last few days in Texas getting ready to play four games in the Lone Star State to close out this seven-game road trip.  It begins tonight in Cedar Park when they take on the Texas Stars (Dallas affiliate) at the HEB Center.  Puck drop is at 7:30 pm central time.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Preds extend division lead over Jets.  Nashville looks like they have locked up first in the Central Division although the Jets got lucky in that both teams (Minnesota & Dallas) chasing them also lost in regulation.  Ken breaks down the game. 

The Tennessean:  Predators take over first place in NHL, build Central Division cushion by beating Jets.  Always good to read about the contest from both perspectives and this recap comes from a beat writer who covers the Predators.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Battered and weary, Jets wind up road trip with 3-1 loss to Preds.  (Paywall).  The Jets showed fight despite having a depleted roster.  Mike recaps last night’s game from Smashville.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Laine haunts elite goalies’ dreams.  (Paywall).  He certainly doesn’t look like he is close to cooling off and that could be problematic for the remaining 12 goalies he will face before the regular season concludes.

Yahoo Canada:  What in the world will Patrik Laine earn on his next contract?  Take a Brinks truck, add a second Brinks truck and maybe a third one and you start to get the idea of the type of cake this sniper will be earning with his next contract.

NHL.com:  Laine’s scoring surge impresses Carson.  While the Jets sophomore sniper has been lights out this season it will be difficult to overtake Carson but not outside the realm of possibility the way that Laine is playing.  Lisa caught up with the top scoring teenager in NHL history to get his thoughts on what Laine has accomplished.
