Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note II:  Don’t look now but the Wolves are circling the Moose. In this instance that’s not meant as a National Geographic reference. Chicago won last night in Milwaukee and are now just four points back of Manitoba for top spot in the Central Division (and the Western Conference). Huge game tonight between these two squads at Allstate Arena with puck drop at 7 pm CST.

Winnipeg Sun:  Five keys to Jets vs Flyers.  Ken’s big matchup is Patrik Laine vs Ivan Provorov. His keys to the game include: 1) A is for apple. 2) Beware of Byfuglien. 3) PK getting it done. 4) Keep an eye on Couturier. 5) Patrick heating up.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets being “careful” with Scheifele as road trip continues with matinee tilt versus Flyers.  With the way the team is playing there is no point in rushing him and when you consider that you need him as healthy as possible for a playoff run it doubles or triples the idea that you ensure your top centre is at more that 100% (if that’s possible) before he gets back into the lineup.

Winnipeg Sun:  Defenceman Ben Chiarot finds comfort as he rides five-game point streak.  Thought the comments Paul Maurice made about never stop looking over your shoulder following practice were interesting.  How a player can utilize that to avoid complacency.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets Snapshots.  Includes: 1) Hutchinson recalls interesting travel day. 2) Enstrom enjoying the ride. 3) Patrick gets in a groove.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Frenzied, frustrating travel adventure a little much for Hutch after Jets dial 911.  (Paywall).  Makes you feel like you were watching the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles with John Candy when you hear what Jets backup goalie Michael Hutchinson went through to get to the game.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Chiarot enjoying breakthrough season on Jets’ blue line.  (Paywall).  The Jets third-pairing defenceman has been receiving some praise from his coach.

Sportsnet:  Where Patrik Laine fits in among the NHL’s goal scoring elite.  The Jets have quite the special player in the Finnish sniper.

The Athletic Winnipeg:  The Jets have earned the opportunity to rest and think long term.  (Paywall).  No question that if it means giving guys an extra day or two of rest vs rushing them back into the lineup you need to be smart and have a long term vision for what a long grind that the post-season can be.

Global News:  Perreault family grateful for care at St. Boniface Hospital.  Integration within the community is an important component for the Jets 2.0.  Good to see the Perreaults giving back in this manner.
