Note:  The Jets aren’t scheduled to skate during the day and following last night’s improbable 4-3 overtime win they can probably use the rest.  Especially considering they will be taking to the ice at 7 pm for the Skills Competition.

Note II:  The Moose are back on the ice as they skate this morning at 10 am at the IcePlex as they prepare to kick off the first of eight games here in Winnipeg.  They start with a Thursday night contest against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Update:  Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien was fined $5,000.00 by NHL Player Safety.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Scheifele sparks heroic comeback to give Jets 4-3 OT win over Caps.  (Paywall).  I used the word improbable numerous times and it was when you reflect on a Jets team that beat the top team in the Metropolitan while down two goals with under ten to go in the final frame.  Jason breaks it all down.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Laine, Ovechkin taking notice of each other’s on-ice talent.  (Paywall).  Lots that the young Jets sniper can learn from the lethal sniper for the Capitals.

Washington Post:  Braden Holtby can only do so much as Capitals squander lead against JetsRead about the game from a beat writer that covers the Jets opposition.

Manitoba Post:  Byfuglien’s slash saves the day for WinnipegWhile the folks from PETA won’t like the slash he laid on Beagle (is this thing on?) there is no doubt that it changed the dynamic of the game.  Would have made it a 4-2 and ended the game, instead 33 heads to the sin bin with his team only down one, and they tie it.

TSN:  Jets would like to add a bit more grit, defensive depth.  Will the Jets be active prior to the February 26th trade deadline? If so, who would they be willing to part with? Is there an urgency for Winnipeg to ‘win now’? Hockey Insider Darren Dreger shares his thoughts.
