Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets return home winless from their three game road trip although they did manage to salvage a single point in Tampa last night.  The team was scheduled to practice at 12 noon today out at the IcePlex but have cancelled it so we won’t have an update on Dustin Byfuglien (although perhaps a recall from the Moose would indicate something was up).  If not, then we will have to wait for tomorrow when they prepare to face the Canucks to kick off three games at home.

Note II:  The Moose also lost in extra time last night which put an end to their nine-game winning streak and turned it into a ten game points streak.  It was as flat as we have seen them play which is impressive considering they held a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes but ultimately lost in a shootout.  They have a re-match with the Admirals today at Bell MTS Place which includes a Star Wars theme.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Lightning strikes Jets.  Glass half full approach would say the Jets managed to go toe to toe with the best team in the NHL and pull out a single point.  Ken provides his thoughts following the overtime loss.

Winnipeg Sun:  Scheifele pushing Stamkos to be better.  High praise for the Jets top centre by a player of Stamkos calibre.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets edged out by Lightning 4-3 in OT.  (Paywall).  The Jets managed to get a point from the contest and Jason breaks it all down from Tampa.

Tampa Bay Times:  Lightning’s Brayden Point credits luck, opportunity for OT winner vs. Jets.  Read about the game from someone who covers the Lightning.  

TSN:  Jets hold their own against high-powered Lightning.  (Video).  The Jets came up short in overtime against the Lightning but Craig Button likes what he saw from Winnipeg and explains how tough it is to contain Tampa Bay’s high-powered offence.

Moose news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Moose practising patience with young guns.  (Paywall).  The beauty of depth in an organization is the ability to have patience with young players and not prematurely rush them ahead in their development.

Illegal Curve:  Admirals end Moose nine game winning streak with 4-3 shootout win.  It was a somewhat chaotic game yesterday afternoon which saw the Moose win streak come to an end.
