Note:  Not much excitement in Jets-villle after the team dropped their second straight game last night in Calgary 6-3 to the Flames to open the season at 0-2.  What made this a particularly bad loss was the Jets held a 3-1 edge but allowed five straight goals.  The team is slated to practice today in Edmonton at 3:15 pm CT.

Note II:  The Moose on the other hand gave folks something to cheer about as they got revenge on the defending Calder Cup champs who had beaten them the night before.  The game was delayed an hour due to a power outage in Grand Rapids but it didn’t appear to impact the Moose players on Saturday night.  They rolled to a 7-2 victory on the strength of three point nights from Kyle Connor (2G 1A), Brendan Lemieux (1G 2A), Jack Roslovic (1G 2A), Michael Sgarbossa (2G 1A) and Sami Niku chipped in with two assists.  Michael Hutchinson picked up his first regular season AHL win since he led the IceCaps to victory back on April 19th, 2014.  The team has the day off and will spend the week preparing for the home opener against the Cleveland Monsters next Friday at Bell MTS Place.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Hockey wasn’t on Kulikov’s radar growing up in Russia.  (Paywall).  Interesting story on how the defenceman hadn’t been living and dreaming about being in the NHL from that young age that we traditionally think most folks who play in the NHL have done all their lives.

The Athletic:  Jets’ silent star, Dustin Byfuglien, has made his mark on Winnipeg without his words.  (Paywall).  As I said when players were announced for the home opener on Wednesday, I’m not sure there is a more popular player overall that the big man from Minnesota.
