Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets were back on the ice yesterday at Bell MTS Place and in advance of same reduced their roster by four players bringing their total down to 25 left in camp.  While they have to get to a 23 man roster today by 4 pm CT, it sounds like Andrew Copp could be joining Matt Hendricks on the IR, although we won’t know this until after Jets skate this morning and coach Maurice provides an update.  If this isn’t the case the Jets would need to make one more move to have a compliant roster.

Note II:  The Moose were also active on Monday sending three players to the ECHL affiliate in Florida.  One of those players was Jamie Phillips which leaves Manitoba with an Eric Comrie and Michael Hutchinson goalie tandem for the upcoming season.

Jets news:

The Athletic:  Jets have pieces to compete but still need to put them all together.  (Paywall).  Eric Duhatschek with an interesting way to look at a team.  No doubting the talent pool from which these Jets have to draw from but as Eric looks into, can they put it all together?

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets go with Old Faithful on the wing.  Just pure versatility and smarts is what you get with Mathieu Perreault and you can see why he will be a solid addition to the top line.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets send four to Moose, keep Poolman.  I really didn’t anticipate Poolman remaining up with the Jets long term if he is going to be the seventh or eighth option for this defence.  Figured he would be better served with the Moose logging big minutes and I suspect if the top six stay healthy that is what we will see soon enough.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Just five members of the relocated Thrashers still playing for the Jets.  (Paywall).  I have to admit it was fun getting into the time machine with Jason to take a look back at the Jets that first took over the city of Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets close to opening-night lineup after demotions.  (Paywall).  Moves were made and now the team is close to being ready to go.

The Hockey News:  Five things we learned from the NHL pre-season.  One of the items mentioned was the deadly Jets power play and whether it can be maintained.  

Montreal Gazette:  Montreal Diehard Leafs fan hitchhiking from Montreal to Winnipeg for opener.  Fun little story about a fan making the journey to see the team he loves.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Jets need more contributions from bottom six.  Tim Campbell of NHL.com joined the Afternoon Ride to discuss the Winnipeg Jets season opening roster, saying he likes the mix of experience and youth but says the expectations are high for the bottom 2 lines. Campbell also says the tighter standards on stick & faceoff penalties will challenge the Jets to play smarter.
