Note:  It was a busy day yesterday for the Jets at training camp.  In case you missed it the team re-assigned five players to the Moose.  They also held a special session with retired referee Paul Devorski and we heard further about this topic from Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele and coach Maurice.

Note II:  The fourth of seven pre-season games for the Jets kicks off at 8 pm at Rogers Place in Edmonton as the team heads west to face the Oilers.  The playing group is scheduled to skate at 10 am with the non-playing group on the ice at 12 pm.  As always keep it locked to illegalcurve.com for pre and post game news and be sure to follow us on social media including Twitter | Facebook | Instagram.

Note III:  Start your morning with three hours of Winnipeg Jets and NHL hockey talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN 1290 Winnipeg.  Show starts at 9 am.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets look to curb penalties.  Just like it will be interesting to watch if the officials continue to call games as tightly as they have in the pre-season it will be similarly interesting to see how the Jets adjust, especially given their history.

Winnipeg Sun:  Sgarbossa looking for stability.  Adaptability is key.  If you see a role that you think you can fit into why not change your game to carve out a niche!

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets coach unconcerned with poor early pre-season results.  (Paywall).  Somewhat unsurprising that he isn’t hitting the panic button but I suspect things will get a bit tighter if this trend continues once the group gets reduced by Monday.

Winnipeg Free Press: Undisciplined Jets take lessons from retired ref.  (Paywall).  Reminds me of the idiom ‘You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink’.  The Jets know what they need to do to reduce penalties but at this point this team needs to do whatever it can to reduce infractions.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Players will eventually understand new calls on slashing, faceoffs.  TSN Hockey analyst Ray Ferraro joined the Afternoon Ride to discuss the Winnipeg Jets’ strategy to bring in Paul Devorski to help the team reduce the number of penalties taken, explaining that, with repetition and explanation, he expects players to understand the reason behind the by-the-book calls on slashing and faceoff penalties.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Jets making an effort to take less penalties.  Jets play-by-play voice Paul Edmonds spoke with Kevin Olszewski about the Winnipeg Jets start to the preseason, the key position battles in training camp and the Jets decision to bring former NHL official Paul Devorski to practice with the team.

Jets video:

TSN:  Do Smith and Mason solve Flames and Jets goaltending issues?  Can Mike Smith in Calgary and Steve Mason in Winnipeg help the Flames and Jets take the next step? Jamie McLennan looks at how these two netminders can help solve their goaltending issues.

TSN:  Jets being proactive as they try to cut down penalties.  Tim Hortons That’s Hockey discusses the Jets’ strategy of bringing in Paul Devorski to help curb Winnipeg’s penalty issues and explain why Dustin Byfuglien needs to lead the way by being more disciplined.

TSN:  Jets bring in Devorski to help bring down penalties.  TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger explains why the Jets brought in retired NHL referee Paul Devorski to help the team try and minimize the amount of penalties they take and discusses how he was utilized at practice on Friday.
