Note: It was an eventful two days in Chicago as another NHL Entry Draft has concluded. Just because the Entry Draft has ended and summer is officially here doesn’t mean that we are on vacation. In fact we are in the courting period for free agents before July 1st when teams can sign free agents and we are also turning our focus to the Winnipeg Jets prospects who will descend on the city today for the start of Prospect Development Camp. Update: The full schedule and roster was announced this morning so check it out here.
Note II: Speaking of Development Camp this is happening about a week earlier than it usually does so we can expect to receive the schedule sometime today. As always keep it locked to illegalcurve.com and on social media including Twitter | Facebook | Instagram for the latest news connected to the Jets.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Jets draft well, but goalie issue remains. Have to suspect that GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is using this period of time to have conversations with potential UFAs netminders who may find themselves aiding the team in an area they require an assist. Ted also broke down the Jets draft in the Windy City.
Winnipeg Sun: Hall call shows ‘Ducky’ was a difference maker. Suspect this will be the most impactful of the Hall of Fame ceremonies to date.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets boost prospect list with big D-men. (Paywall). Jason was in Chicago and breaks it all down from his perspective.
NHL.com: Samberg hopes to bring speed, size to Jets blueline. Sounds like the Jets were laser focused on getting this Minnesotan into the fold.
Alaska Dispatch News: Anchorage’s Swayman to Bruins in 4th round, Evingson to Winnipeg in 7th. Always good when you get to hear the perspective of a prospect who didn’t attend the draft as was the case of the Jets new prospect defenceman who was back home in Alaska.
Eagle Tribune: Merrimack defenceman Johnathan Kovacevic drafted in third round. More reaction from the folks back
Illegal Curve: Ben Chiarot signs two year deal with the Jets. With all the draft news the Jets also made some noise in the morning getting the RFA defenceman under contract.
