Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers (Monday, Jan 16th)

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets walking wounded against Sens.  No Blake Wheeler for tonight.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Wheeler’s status for game unclear.  Good news is he didn’t sustain substantial damage from that Sykora blast.  The bad news is he might be unavailable for the already low scoring Jets in tonight’s contest with the Senators.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Don’t stick a fork in them yet.  Considering the injuries this team has sustained it is a wonder they are still talking playoffs.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets reeling up front.  Wow those are some serious droughts.  If the injuries weren’t bad enough, the team, with the exception of Wheeler and Ladd, has forgotten how to score so far in 2012.  They are going to have to continue to ride their tenders and hope they can get some increased production out of their remaining forwards.

Winnipeg Sun:  Time is now for Jets.  The Jets are going to need to win a whole lot of games in their 38 remaining contests.

Globe and Mail:  Tough flying ahead for slumping Jets.  Coach Noel is never one to makes excuses.  Despite the loss of Bogosian and Byfuglien he knows that he can only play with the players he has on the roster and that no amount of feeling sorry for himself will make any difference.  The push to the All-Star break is going to be a critical one for this team.

Affiliate news – St. John’s IceCaps:

The Telegram:  IceCaps come up short against Penguins.  Two losses in two days to the visiting WBS Penguins.

The Times Leader:  Street plays hero in his hometown once again.  I’d suggest that Street was seen more as a villain when his game winning goal in OT helped his squad walk into his parents hometown and steal a win.

Next opponent news – Ottawa Senators:

CBC:  Senators looking to Anderson against Jets.  With 2 wins already this season against the Jets and his strong play of late, it looks like the Jets will be facing the Sens hot hand.

The Globe and Mail:  Surprise, surprise..Senators continue their ascent.  Nobody expected the team in the Nation’s capital to be playing this well.

Ottawa Citizen:  Pesky Sens keep chipping away at it.  Quite unbelievable that this team has taken as many points as they have recently and yet remain in 5th spot in the East.  Combo of having to make up for a poor start and the East being quite tight.

Ottawa Sun:  MacLean all Jack-ed up.  Fans of the Jets 1.0 have to be happy to see the affable former Jets star succeeding in his present role as Senators bench boss.
