Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets had won three in a row until they ran into an Avalanche yesterday afternoon.  Today Winnipeg will have a day off before they hit the ice on Monday to start practicing in advance of a four game home series.

Note II:  The Moose dropped a pair of games over the weekend including last night’s almost comeback against a solid Barracuda team.  The team was originally slated to practice today but that has been cancelled.  They will host a few events on Monday before they head out on Tuesday for a six game road trip.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets haven’t turned corner.  Every time we think that it has clicked with this group a game like Saturday afternoon happens that splashes some cold water on that sentiment.  Ken has more on the topic in this article.

Winnipeg Sun:  Scheifele OK after taking hard hit.  Not sure why that headline is singular since Nikita Zadorov smoked the young Jets centre twice.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets’ winning streak snapped by woeful Avalanche.  It had all the markings of a classic let down game and that is exactly what happened as Winnipeg dropped the afternoon contest in Colorado.  Ken breaks down the action from the Pepsi Center.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Lowry happy to finally end goalless drought.  (Paywall).  He had seven goals up to December 15th and then went without lighting the lamp until he put in not one, but two against the Avs.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Avalanche crush Jets’ hopes of winning 4 in a row.  (Paywall).  They were looking to keep pace in the Western Conference playoff race but leaving the road trip where they had secured wins in their previous three ended in the Mile High City.

Sportsnet:   It’s time to start thinking of Mark Scheifele as an NHL superstar.  Whenever you see a headline like this you can tell it likely wasn’t written in Winnipeg.  Folks around these parts certainly recognize what 55 brings to the ice.
