Note:  The Jets thought taking a day off was so nice they figured they try it twice as coach Maurice decided to give his crew another 24 hours to recover before getting them back to the grind.  So the team will take today off and hit the MTS Centre for a practice tomorrow morning.

Note II:  But just because the Jets are off doesn’t mean you will be sans hockey as over in North Carolina the Moose are going to be playing game one of the five they will play this road trip.  Tonight they are in Charlotte to take on the Checkers for the first time this season.  Mitch Peacock will have the call starting at 5:45 pm with puck drop at 6 pm.

Jets news:

NBC Sports:  Five team stats you may find interestingOr in the case of the Winnipeg Jets, who are featured in the final one of the five, terrifying.

Winnipeg Sun:  Critical time for Jets’ Maurice.  Ted asks the relevant questions in this piece as he analyzes the status of the Jets bench boss.

Winnipeg Sun:  Ken’s Notebook.  Includes: 1)  Worst part of Jets schedule is now over. 2) Wheeler comes back from hit. 3) Two own goals, not nice. 4) Perreault’s slump buster.  5) Thorburn ties Ladd & Kane.  6) Special team woes.  7) Remaining schedule.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Laine shoots — his team in the foot. But what doesn’t kill you… (Paywall).  One thing about this kid I don’t think we will have to worry about is accountability.  By my check he’s done an interview in just about every city Winnipeg has visited and hasn’t made himself unavailable, good games or bad.

NHL.com:  Josh Morrissey establishes himself with Jets.  You really got a sense of it last season when he was with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL that it was only a matter of time that he would be making that transition to the NHL.  Because we live in an instant gratification society fans were concerned that the 2013 1st round pick would be a bust because he hadn’t made a quick enough transition to the big league but that extra bit of seasoning seems to have done him well.

Globe and Mail:  Jets feeling the squeeze of their crazy, busy schedule.  Always nice to see Eric Duhatschek writing about the Jets and this column took a look at the topic du jour.

Sportsnet:  Future NHL stars learn life lessons at Rookie Orientation Program.  Both Josh Morrissey and Andrew Copp spoke about participating in a very valuable program for young players.

NBC Sports:  ‘It happens in hockey,’ says Gretzky of Laine’s own-goal gaffe.  #99 saw live perhaps the most famous own goal in the NHL when Steve Smith scored on the Oilers in the 3rd period of Game 7 of the Smythe Division final against the Flames.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Tim Campbell of NHL.com looks back on the Jets losses to Calgary and Edmonton and wonders what the future holds for the Winnipeg Jets.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  In the First Take segment the guys look back on the Jets weekend of games in Alberta and wonder whether or not Paul Maurice is on the hot seat.

TSN 1260 Edmonton:  Nielson & Fraser.  Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie joined the show to breakdown the Oilers 3-2 win over the Jets, and the bizarre own-goal by Jets’ star Patrik Laine that led to the eventual winner.
