Note: The Jets have the day off today. The Jets alumni however do not as they will hit the ice for a practice at the MTS Centre at 11:45 am.
Note II: The Moose are traveling today to Toronto as they play a pair of games in Southern Ontario on the 22nd and 23rd. They are then back in the city for a pair of games against another California team as San Diego comes to town.
Afternoon Jets news:
CTV News: Gretzky says he’s excited to see Jets rookie Laine play live at Heritage Classic. While Laine is a pretty cool cat it has to get the blood pressure rising when the greatest hockey player the world has ever seen (my opinion) says he is looking forward to seeing you play.

ESPN: Checking in on the goalie trade market. (Paywall). Plenty of scouts were still in the MTS Centre for last night’s Moose game including one from the Kings so who knows what happens with the Pavelec. (You can read some of the Pavelec stuff as it is open and then the rest of Craig’s column is behind a paywall).
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ first Finns paved way for likes of Selanne, Laine. Always interesting to read about the trailblazers.

Winnipeg Sun: Perreault ready for Round 3. Fans will be happy if he remains pointless but the team picks up a win over the Oilers.
Winnipeg Free Press: Rookie star Laine’s recent hat trick may be tip of iceberg for ‘big-time player’. (Paywall). He started with none in the pre-season, then got his first in game one and exploded with three in game four. Now fans are thinking the sky is the limit with their talented Finn.

Today’s Slapshot: Friedman and McKenzie share latest thoughts on Trouba front. A bit of an update (not that anything is really happening) for those who are wondering what the latest news on the disgruntled Jets defenceman.
FiveThirtyEight: Meet the Man behind the the NHL’s Russian Revolution. When I saw that site I figured I’d be reading an article about Trump and Clinton but instead, and fittingly with the Heritage Classic weekend upcoming, it is about former Jets GM Mike Smith. Both an article and podcast. (Winnipeg talk begins at 20 minute mark).
Sportsnet: The history and heartbreak behind the Jets-Oilers rivalry. Smythe Division still kills those of us who grew up in Winnipeg in the 80s cheering for the Jets 1.o.
