Note:  The Jets have the day off today.  The Jets alumni however do not as they will hit the ice for a practice at the MTS Centre at 11:45 am.

Note II:  The Moose are traveling today to Toronto as they play a pair of games in Southern Ontario on the 22nd and 23rd.  They are then back in the city for a pair of games against another California team as San Diego comes to town.

Afternoon Jets news:

CTV News:  Gretzky says he’s excited to see Jets rookie Laine play live at Heritage Classic.  While Laine is a pretty cool cat it has to get the blood pressure rising when the greatest hockey player the world has ever seen (my opinion) says he is looking forward to seeing you play.

Edmonton Sun:  Winnipeg Jets boss wanted Oilers for Heritage Classic.  Many who grew up in Winnipeg loved the Jets as much as they disliked the Oilers.  Jets co-owner Mark Chipman only had one team in mind when it came to this game.  Read more about his reasons here.

TSN:  What’s the latest on Trouba? (Video).  Are the Jacob Trouba trade talks heating up or could he return to the Jets’ lineup? Darren Dreger and Gary Lawless have the latest on the rumours circling the disgruntled defenceman.

National Post:  Laine’s hat trick continues his quick explosion into the upper echelon of hockey stars.  Even in Finland his exploits are are consuming social media.

Jets news:

Today’s Slapshot:  Trouba trade offers haven’t been close enough for Jets yetLeBrun seems to have insight from the Trouba camp as he has been “in the know” since the rumours of an offer sheet first began swirling back at the NHL Draft in Buffalo this summer.

ESPN:  Checking in on the goalie trade market.  (Paywall).  Plenty of scouts were still in the MTS Centre for last night’s Moose game including one from the Kings so who knows what happens with the Pavelec.  (You can read some of the Pavelec stuff as it is open and then the rest of Craig’s column is behind a paywall).

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets’ first Finns paved way for likes of Selanne, Laine.  Always interesting to read about the trailblazers.

Winnipeg Sun:  Lindstrom doing double duty Heritage weekend.  One of my all time favourite players will be showing off his dual loyalty.

Winnipeg Sun:  Patrik Laine and Tyler Myers check out the stadium.  Both players seemed quite impressed by the scope/scale of the rink inside Investor’s Group Field.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets’ rallies covering up flaws.  While folks tend to remember the wins it is important to remember that this Jets team has fallen behind in all the games they have played this season.

Winnipeg Sun:  Perreault ready for Round 3.  Fans will be happy if he remains pointless but the team picks up a win over the Oilers.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Rookie star Laine’s recent hat trick may be tip of iceberg for ‘big-time player’. (Paywall).  He started with none in the pre-season, then got his first in game one and exploded with three in game four.  Now fans are thinking the sky is the limit with their talented Finn.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Oilers, Jets alumni ‘excited to be here’ for Heritage Classic.  (Paywall).  We’ve talked to many on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show and each player sounds beyond excited at the prospect of re-connecting with their old teammates.

NHL.com: Paul Maurice still listening, learning with Jets.  A long read on the Jets bench boss.

NHL.com:  Adam Lowry’s guide to Winnipeg.  If you’d like to know where the Jets forward is telling folks to go when they get to the city for the upcoming Heritage Classic weekend.

ESPN:  Jets hold steady at 71.   The folks at ESPN have been doing this for 13 where they rank all 122 sports franchises from top to bottom. They look at What’s good, What’s bad and What’s new.

Today’s Slapshot:  Friedman and McKenzie share latest thoughts on Trouba front.  A bit of an update (not that anything is really happening) for those who are wondering what the latest news on the disgruntled Jets defenceman.

FiveThirtyEight:  Meet the Man behind the the NHL’s Russian Revolution.  When I saw that site I figured I’d be reading an article about Trump and Clinton but instead, and fittingly with the Heritage Classic weekend upcoming, it is about former Jets GM Mike Smith.  Both an article and podcast.  (Winnipeg talk begins at 20 minute mark).

Sportsnet:  The history and heartbreak behind the Jets-Oilers rivalry.  Smythe Division still kills those of us who grew up in Winnipeg in the 80s cheering for the Jets 1.o.

Sportsnet:  Scheifele, superstar in the making.  (Video).  Hockey Central at Noon breaks down the Jets 4-goal comeback win vs. the Leafs, led by Mark Scheifele, who the crew thinks is already a star, but will soon be a superstar in this league.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Big-league inspiration.  (Paywall).  The NHL and AHL squads sure seem to have a lot in common after the last two hockey games we witnessed at the MTS Centre.
