Note:  The Jets reduced their training camp roster to 24 (counting an injured Brendan Lemieux).  We will likely learn what his status is today as the team has until 4 pm CT to finalize their 23 man roster with the NHL.  The Jets have modified their schedule for the final day of training camp today and will hold an off-ice team retreat.  We will still have plenty of Jets news on site today.

Note II:  The Moose had the day off yesterday but will hit the ice for a skate at 12 pm with a number of new players after Winnipeg re-assigned eight to their AHL affiliate.  Four of the eight have to clear waivers and we will know by 11 am CT whether anyone was claimed.

Note III:  As of 11 am CT none of the four Jets on waivers had been claimed so they will now report to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

Jets news:

The McGill Tribune:  In conversation with Winnipeg Jets’ Assistant Coach Jamie KomponThe article is about a week old but it isn’t time sensitive.  Simply a chat with the Jets new assistant coach.

TSN:  10 NHL rookies to watch this seasonNot a surprise that Winnipeg has two players on this list.

TSN:  31 bold predictionsI will make a bold one of my own…no chance Hellebuyck is anywhere but in Winnipeg to start the 2016-17 season.

Illegal Curve:  Behind the Mask with Connor HellebuyckI went one on one with the Jets netminder to find out how he came up with the design for his helmet.

National Post:  From Vancouver to Winnipeg, Cdn teams should claw for playoff spots in NHL’s stacked Western Conference.  It will be a tough slog in Canada if all the teams fail to make the playoffs once again.

Sportsnet:  Jets 2016-17 Season PreviewIncludes main summer headlines, rookies to watch, team will have success if…, team will be unsuccessful if…. and ends with a poll as to whether folks thing team will make playoffs.

Winnipeg Sun:  Pavelec sent packing.  Ken broke the news yesterday morning and he offers up this piece on the move that sent waves throughout the city.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Morrissey, host of young guns crack lineup.  (Paywall).  The young defenceman had plenty to be thankful for on Monday when he learned that he would be starting the season with Winnipeg.  As always Morrissey was very insightful and honest in sharing his feelings about winning a spot on the team.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Pavelec can’t save himself.  (Paywall).  It was one of the craziest (and busiest) Jets news days since the team came to Winnipeg.  Scott writes about the reaction from inside the room.

Sportsnet:  Youth movement is alive in Winnipeg as Jets open seasonAdd another whack of rookies to the Jets mix and you have a recipe for a very young squad.  Clear from what coach Maurice said today that he will lean heavily on the vets to help get the rookies acclimatized to the NHL.

ESPN:  NHL Power Rankings.  While the article below has high expectations for Winnipeg this one doesn’t have the Jets ranking too highly to start the season.

ESPN:  Projecting the Central Division.  (Paywall).  High praise as well as expectations for the Jets and this was prior to the news about Pavelec being re-assigned.

Illegal Curve: Jets re-assign eight players In order to get down to 23 active players the team needed to make these moves but some of the names on the list were surprising and one that got the entire city talking was long-time goalie Ondrej Pavelec.

Illegal Curve:  Vegas Odds – Jets rookie Patrik Laine points over/under set at 40.5.  I’m not much of a gambler so I have no idea if that is a good value bet.

Jets audio:

Illegal Curve:  Jets day 18 of training camp audioHear from Wheeler, Tanev, Hellebucyk, Connor, Myers and Morrissey.

Moose news:

Illegal Curve:  Moose trim roster by fourIt was addition by subtraction.  The team let four guys go but also got eight players (provided the four who need to clear waivers actually clear waivers) to increase their camp size as they get ready for the season opener in Iowa on Friday.
