Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  Day 4 of Jets training camp is upon us.  There is one last day of practice before the first pre-season contest when the Jets and Flames play tomorrow night at the MTS Centre.  Of course everyone is still talking about day 3 of camp when Jets players reacted to the news that Jacob Trouba had requested a trade out of the city.  Group 2 will hit the ice at the IcePlex at 9 am.  Groups 1 & 3 will then be on the ice at 12:00 pm before they scrimmage at 12:30 pm.  Full list of the three different groups are here.

Afternoon Jets news:

USA Today:  Trouba unlikely to get quick resolution to trade request.  Trouba’s agent Kurt Overhardt seemed to suggest that it won’t take long to make something happen but columnist Kevin Allen appears to think otherwise.

TSN:  Trouba has the makings of a first-pairing talent.  The numbers are good for Trouba but will that translate into a big trade?

Toronto Star:  Leafs could have the pieces to deal for Trouba.   Cox throws the Leafs into the fray as a potential suitor for young Jacob Trouba.

Winnipeg Sun:  Leadership group weighs in.  Welcome back to Winnipeg now let’s discuss the fact that a top young defender wants out.  Not exactly how players want to begin the 2016-17 campaign.

Winnipeg Sun:  Great expectations – Laine joins first Jets practice.  It was an interesting chat with the Jets top pick this past summer as he got his first real taste of Jets training camp.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Breaking up is hard to do for Wheeler, Byfuglien.  (Paywall).  Not a surprise that players are lamenting the loss of the talented young defender and are hoping that there is still a chance he may return to play for the Jets.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Jacob Trouba’s agent, Kurt Overhardt, joins the guys to discuss his client’s decision to sit out of Winnipeg Jets training camp after requesting a trade. Overhardt says the trade request going public is not a negotiating ploy, and says they have not been able to negotiate a contract with the Jets.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  TSN Hockey analyst Dave Poulin joins the guys to discuss Jacob Trouba’s trade request. Poulin says that, because of the CBA, Jacob Trouba is unable to sign where he pleases, and says that Trouba must earn his position on the Jets team.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Odds and Ends from Day 3.  (Paywall).  Includes Kichton the hero in first scrimmage, Morrissey’s chances suddenly improve, Thorburn feels intensity starting to pick up, Head coach Maurice staying with Europe and World Cup players return to the rink today.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Brian Strait says becoming a Winnipeg Jet was destiny.  (Paywall).  Interesting news that the Jets had attempted to claim Strait previously.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets would send wrong message caving to impetuous players.  (Paywall).  Certainly not pulling any punches with that headline.  Paul looks at the inconsistent messaging being sent by the Trouba camp.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets trade options for Trouba.  With the news of the trade request behind us the focus now switches to potential trade partners for his services.  Ken looks at some of the options.
