Note: In case you missed the breaking news on Saturday night, Jets RFA defenceman Jacob Trouba, via his agent Kurt Overhardt, has requested a trade from the Winnipeg Jets. The team released a statement in response.
Note II: Day 3 of training camp gets started at the MTS IcePlex with Group 1 on the ice at 9 am. Groups 2 & 3 will then be on the ice at 12:15 pm before they scrimmage at 12:45 pm. Full list of the three different groups are here.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets would send wrong message caving to impetuous players. (Paywall). Certainly not pulling any punches with that headline. Paul looks at the inconsistent messaging being sent by the Trouba camp.
CSN New England: Trouba deal is one Bruins need to get done. And the trade spot speculation continues.
Winnipeg Sun: Pavelec ready for latest push in crease. Competition is going to be fierce between the three goalies who will face off for the two available spots in the next couple of weeks of training camp.
Winnipeg Sun: Trouba demands trade from Jets. Ken offers up his thoughts including a chat he had last night with the 2012 1st round pick.
Winnipeg Free Press: Trouba asks for trade from Jets. (Paywall). Scott delves into this Saturday night surprise.
Edmonton Journal: Jacob Trouba refuses to report to Jets camp, presents golden opportunity for Oilers. I suspect there are 29 teams in the NHL getting ready to send in an offer to GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. Here is one from an Edmonton perspective.
MLive.com: Trouba requests trade; could he be on Red Wings’ radar? Might the Michigan product like playing for the team he grew up cheering for?
TSN: What would it cost to acquire Jacob Trouba? (Video). Gary Lawless explains why Jacob Trouba’s trade request won’t go over too well in Winnipeg, and sheds light on how long it could take to find a deal and what it would cost to acquire the promising young defenceman.
Winnipeg Sun: Ken’s Notebook. Includes Strait taking a circuitous route to Winnipeg, O is for Opportunity, Cheveldayoff gives props to Trouba (pre news of trade demand), Line combos unveiled (sort of), Lemieux on the mend, Power outage causes delay.
Winnipeg Sun: North America would’ve given Canada a test: Hellebuyck. It would have been a hell of a good game to see Team NA go up against the apparently unstoppable behemoth in Canada.
Winnipeg Free Press: Let the goalie battle begin. (Paywall). Three goalies for two jobs. That isn’t gonna be a problem is it?
Winnipeg Free Press: Notes from Cheveldayoff’s chat at Fan Fest. (Paywall). Includes: how the Jets can get back into the playoffs, 2016 World Cup of Hockey, his message to players before training camp started, on the prospect play at Young Stars and on Patrik Laine.
Winnipeg Free Press: Pavelec, Hellebuyck join Jets camp after returning from World Cup. (Paywall). And now the goalie carousel begins.
Global News: Nothing stands between a fan and their Winnipeg Jets. While we were on air this AM, Jets fans went to the IcePlex (despite the rain) to check out the Fan Fest.
Illegal Curve: Brendan Lemieux is week to week with a lower-body injury. An unfortunate situation for the young prospect who was going to try to challenge for a spot.
